Okay now that I have shown my ignorance
tongue.gif

In the waist band carry.. I can't seem to picture it.. i hear it is the best mode of carry, but the thign s mabe i am too short or maybe I should tuck my shirt in but it doesn't feel comfortable. Is this the "pistol in the jocks" type carry you see in detective movies? how does the blade sit? 45 degrees?? does it go down your thigh? does it sit along the length of where yourthigh meets yrou pelvis?

oh if you plan to post pics, please wear pants

thanks guys.

soryy again for the dumb post but I can't stand the ignorance anymore

Are you talking about a fixed blade or a folder? With really big folders, like the Sifu, the only way I can comfortbly carry is IWB, i.e. with the folder inside my pants, clipped to my waistband. For a fixed blade, you'd need a sheath that you could clip to your waistband or belt, with the sheath inside your pants.

I hope you're not trying to carry a fixed blade IWB with no sheath!

Carrying a fixed blade IWB without a sheath is called IVC, or Instant Vasectomy Carry. Not to be confused with IWB.

I carry IWB down my right side(clipped to pants about right at my hipbone) the clip I actually slide under my belt and with my shirts tucked in or untucked you can't hardly see the knife. Of course it depends on the size of the knife and how high/low the clip is on the knife. I try to keep the angle right down the outside of my thigh. Of course you need to experiment with the knife and different carry options, hope this helps

Sniperboy,
You're not the only one who finds IWB carry uncomfortable. Maybe I'm built wrong, but the only knife I own that doesn't poke at some part of me is a Cricket. Even that I'll do the IWB thing only if I'm wearing sweat pants that don't have a pocket.

I htink I have been too influenced by Bob Kasper Articles ^_^;; I just CAN'T Imagine how I can put a 5 inch blade into my pants.

I would assume that since I am right handed it would be best to have it on my left side ANGLED (cause if it points straight down I wont be able to sit) along where my pelvis and thigh meet. Am I on the right track?

Hnn i guess all I can do is fiddle around with it until I get it right.

I carry most of my folders iwb behind my right kidney. I'll usually have to adjust the positioning when I sit in my truck, but once I get it to where it doesn't jab me, I forget it's there. It's quick to access, out of sight, and lets me use my front pocket for cash and stuff. It's also the way I carry my 1911, although that takes a little more getting used to.

Having carried a Para P-14 or 1911 for the better part of 10 years - I can hardly notice the knife tucked under the belt right next to it.

I do know that Vertically challenged people (i.e. FAT) have a problem with the knife poking their sides - well - loose some weight or carry in your pocket - But this way EVERYBODY knows you have a knife and which side it is.

The less information you give away - the more surprises you can use in any given encounter...

Ouch! Also, not necessarily correct. I can't speak for sniperboy, but I'm a long way from fat; however, after 24 years of weightlifting/bodybuilding, it is true that I am shaped somewhat different than the "norm."

my problem is my height.. Althogh I tend not to delve in it.. i wonder if that is a factor that will prevent me from carrying a sheathed 6 inch fixed blade.

Yeah, but all of us 'technically' shaped folk have a carry option not available to you hardbody types...

We can conceal a blade (of various sizes, dependent on just how big your gravity well is) between the rolls of insulation! And this is also useful for more mundane items, like remote controls, change, small pets, and, in some extreme circumstance, vehicular storage!

One warning, though...watch where you walk, or beware the FLABALANCHE! This is never a pretty thing, and will often result in environmental damage, with the attendant repercussions from Greenpeace (up to, and including, the annoying little buggers rolling you repeatedly into the nearest body of water!)

Okay.. I did some experimentation.. I fiddled around with my BM 710 with iwb carrym and I found that if I clipped it on the right side with the 'bottom' of the folder pointing towards the crotch area it seems to be the most comfprtable (although it is almost horizontal) the 'butt' of the folder sticking out doesn;t jab my stomach much which is good. I guess I found out how to carry a folder.

So I tried it with a ruler - sticking it on my left side, the point facing away from the crotch - (don't have many fixed blades or long blades that have a sheath

and now I look like my stmach has an extra nipple.) I guess it's trial and error now.

OH! THANK YOU! THANK YOU Richard!!! A picture is worth a thousand words.. I am n your debt for going through the trouble.

Now I know what they mean by "behind the kidney" I was narrowminded (and thought that I missed a few bio/anatomy classes
smile.gif
) and thought iwb only meant "in front" - This changes my world!

all you bf guys rule.. sniff sniff

Not to be confused with the old pirate's version, ITC (in teeth carry)

Alright, I'm not short and after being called stick boy, I guess I'm not fat either. And I can't stand clipping the knife to my waistband. Maybe its the fact that I don't wear my jeans real loose fitting I don't know but I hate having the knife there. And for those of you with longer knives that stick up above your waistband, doesn't it poke you in the side or back everytime you move? I don't even like belt sheaths that stick up above my belt.I know one thing though, you'll never lose your knife. As long as its stabbing you in the side you'll know its there.

Hi Sniperboy...

This is a picture of Murray Haday from Pro Edge Knives.. He's wearing his Lightfoot Sierra IWB up in front.I believe it's called "Kidney Carry"

Mhiwb.jpg

This is only one of the ways to carry a knife...

I carry my Fallkniven AI all the time, with a 6" blade straight down my left side, actually more on the back part of my hip.
Sometimes I will Cant it slightly forward so the tip poking against my back pocket.

In this position even with a T-shirt on it is somtimes hard to notice (Printing). Although you want to be very aware of lifting your arms in public if the shirt is short.

I adjust sometimes if it starts poking me,, but mostly it's pretty darn comfortable. You've never forget it's there,,but if you add a little moleskin or something soft where it touches your skin it won't rub.

Hope this helps..

ttyle Eric...

Is that a Blade-Tech Tek Lok on your Griffith?

Yep, that is the tek-lok. Very versatile. I have found at least of dozen carry variations for it.

Hi Richard....

Nice blade,, Lynn does a great job by the looks of it..

How is the Tek fastened to the sheath in this configuration?

It must be attached to a seperate piece of kydex somehow,,or is it fastened to the top of the Tek ?

The rig looks like a pouch style sheath,,or is it a pancake ??

Thanks..
