What Fiddleback Forge knife are you totin' today?

This one today, as I wandered through a field studying the amasing airborne seed dispersal system that always facinates me.

Yes, at least the airborne seed disbursal is more fun then getting the thorny ones stuck on you as you go through the fields. Ouch!! Or are those more in a wooded area? 😀

Yes very much so. The worst ones are the ones in the shadows under the canopy, like these. But there are some mean ones in the fields as well. This guys are why I am hoping to score a Forager later on this year or next. But may end up settling for a 12 inch machete. The forager has the most forward mass of my favorite Fiddlebacks.

It's one Ed named the Backseater, after a friend he first made one for some years ago who was a "Backseater" in an F-4 in 'nam in the 60s. It's based on the Camillus Jet Pilot Knife, but 80CrV2 steel with his own saw style, and a Randall style single finger notch handle with a mortice tang..

I've had sort of a traumatic relationship with the PSK since being given one in my youth, and carrying it through the years I lived on the streets as a kid.

He did a batch of these recently, and I thought with my history, and the fact that I have become a backseater myself having handed my life over the Jesus some years back and like the name, I thought I should get in on the batch.

I ordered mine without the saw to be less work on Ed, but things got confused and I ended up with it anyway. No complaints

Oddly, and surprisingly enough, I don't carry it as much as I expected. It mostly lives on my dresser. For I am more enamored a version of the Bob Loveless boot knife I had him make for me. And I carry it a lot more than I expected to. I like ythe way the colors pop in the plant images

Aparenly the third time is the charm. I bought the top two first, for the same purposes (serveiling people known to be child traffickers on my off days) but the boot knife won out in the end and became an edc.

It and the Esquire are my two most carried knives, and both are part of a calendar project I am back to working on now that Alayna is grown.

The Esquire is one of my all time favorite knives, but it's not really the right size or right color for this project. I want something like the Yellow Chickadee to rep Fiddleback Forge in this project, but I doubt it will stick around long enough.

Ed is my armorer in this war against the child traffickers and slavers, he is my Bible study partner and my Biblical mentor. He is a Biblical scholar like I aspire to be, and I can feel his energy in the knives he makes for me, and I know he is going over Bible study verses and his Sunday school sermons as he makes my knives, and that's the energy I want in the knives I carry in dark places. He and I have had that discussion more than once.

He is in his 80s now and he will retire soon, and I want to get everything I want/need from him for my work before he does. I have one more EMK already ordered for field work. Now that I've learned which ones really mean the most two me, I am considering selling a couple of my EMKs the fund the next one, and a Fiddleback for this project.

Thank you for the wonderful comments and the faith connection, the Lord is your pilot and will get you through the flak of life to arrive safely, it is our job as the back seater to make sure we read the manual ( the Bible, as if you didn’t know what I mean 😀 ) and be ready in case we need to use the chaf and flares for defense, the full armor of God.

I didn’t know Ed was up there, I have always liked some of his frontier knives. I have two Varmint hunters. Is the boot knife sharpened on top or just a swedge?

I was introduced to Ed in 2012 by a mutual friend who owned a few of his knives, and sold me one. Over the next three years Ed and I talked more and more about life, and knives as they had applied to my life on the streets. And I bought a few knives from him directly in that time.

By late 2015 we had become friends, and I had talked to him about my childhood and the church then. One thing led to another and he sent me a book called "A Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel in 2016. Also in 2016 I helped him develop a model he named the Bush Hunter. A hidden tang model with a 4 inch blade. I bought 4 of them, and gave 2 as gifts.

By 2018 I was exploring different churches, looking for the right pastor to Baptize me in 2019 I found him, in 2020 the big C closed the churches, but in the summer of 2021 I finally got him to Baptize me at the church summer picnic in a small lake made by a stream on the side of Lookout Mtn. And since I don't do TV, or bars, or movies, or dine out much, I spend most of my free time doing Bible study and Biblical research, studying Biblical archaeology.

As for the Boot Knife it is sharpened on both edges. It's the only one of the 4 I have that are.
 
Thanks, I was looking up the Nephilim lately as I have been seeing a lot of references to giants on YouTube. A lot of the content is AI gnerared so I wanted to read up on theories, not necessarily all biblical sources, so I wanted to compare to what the Bible said.

A lot of physical evidence is being discovered all across the earth that shows that giants have existed. But the only new works I put much trust in are archaeological in nature. A lot of what is written in text is being conflated and obfuscated, and in some instances re-written all together. The nephilimic rabbit hole I'm down currently involves the shapes of the heads of the Egyptian kings in a timeline moving to the exodus and their skulls becoming more elongated in the back. And in researching the shape of the funny hats the Pharisees wore, and wondering if maybe it was to hide an odd skull shape, which could explain several things the details of are not given. I'll send you a PM and we can continue the conversation if you like. May be best if we don't get this thread too off topic.
