What fixed blade for conceiled daily carry?

well you should be carefull because if it is in a 'grey' area of the law, they will prob arrest you and let the judge sort it out - and that costs time and $$ - but i think a man should be able to carry what he needs for life/work w/out hassles, so dont let me stop you, lol

i just got a CRKT companion, and a custom sheath from on/scene tactical, and recommend it highly for concealed carry-w/the custom sheath, the 1 that comes w/it just didnt work for me - i also have probs w/concealing a fixed blade for the same reasons you do, my dress - ie i like to tuck in my shirt, which, in the summer, negates IWB concealed carry, so in the summer carry a folder. but i can relate ....the way you dress matters a LOT for concealment, and i carry a glock too, so i have even more stuff to conceal...

I'll have to agree with Normark (Eric and I are usually on the "same page" in sheath matters) - a properly designed custom sheath can be made to give you the exact carry options you desire. For comfortable, easy access, concealed carry, nothing beats IWB. You can use "G" clips, soft loops with snaps, or a belt stud for easy on/off and can hide a surprisingly large knife this way. There are some great factory sheaths out there, and likewise, some that suck completely. Go custom and you can get what suits your particular needs and body type exactly.

Provided that it's legal in your locale, check out the knives by Running Dog. Some very nice smaller knives that look to be very concealable, very useable, and very practical.

Try Böker / Bud Nealy MCS or Fällkniven G1.
I have both, and love my G1. It comes with a neck kydex sheath only. The Böker rig can be worn in a number of ways.

Hey Mike!

I've sent you a couple of e-mails over the last three months about an upcoming southern comfort job I'll be wanting but you haven't replied. Pricing and options questions. I figured you've been busy or the e-mails got lost or something. Can you drop me a line?

Thanks,
Nobody (Bruce Parris, <longship@ec.rr.com> or <bruceparris@hotmail.com>)

Why conceal it if it's legal to carry in plain sight? Only reason to do that is if you're plainclothes LEO of some sort. As for convincing them your knife is a "tool", it ain't gonna help that it's in a super duper concealment rig with belts and snaps and such. They gonna ask ya if ya need that kind of rig for screwdrivers and pliers as well.

check out my 'mini' series of one of a kind fixed blades, not one of which is longer than four inches, I don't think. For a while I thought that my fixed blade pocket knife with leather sheath and pocket clip was of limited tactical use, but I've warmed up to the idea, since most police officers would say "cute knife," and hand it back, in most places. As well, a small knife weilded in a tactical manner assures good weapon retention, reduces the liability of the defender, and insures that the attacker gets the point without fear of making an accidental lethal blow.

I carry a CRKT Stiff K.I.S.S. in my left pocket. It works for me because I can't operate a folder very well with my left hand. :O I don't think it would carry very well on the right because of the drawing system, but it works for me. One problem, though, that I've had with it is that sometimes the knife gets pushed a little too far into the sheath and the Zytel starts to a little under the retainer cup. I can't see the normally, though, so that may be a non-issue.

I occasionally carry a nice little Running Dog knife in BG-42 IWB SOB with shirt untucked. No one knows it's there. I also carry a Carson F-4, on a chain from my belt, in my RF pocket.

Even though both are small knives (the F-4 is tiny!), either one would probably get my butt nailed to the wall if discovered by a LEO. A local radio host calls MN, "The state where nothing is allowed".

Take care...

I like to carry my BM Nimravus in a kydex sheath of my own make with a tek-lok. The slim profile is perfect for side carry or small of the back.

Right now I have a Running Dog knife on my belt.I wear it horizontal on my belt just to the left of center line. The knife is just over 7 inches oal.By going horizontal I can sit drive ect.and not even know its there.Right now an untucked tank top hangs over it,cool weather a sweatshirt hides it fine, yet just pull up a little and draw. Also can draw right or left with ease.

Zombie, on the concealment and legality issue, here is my advice:

If the law specifically forbids fixed blade carry......don't. It's not worth the hassle

If you simply must carry, and are forced to use the knife in a defensive situation, be EXTREMELY accomodating to the arresting officer (you will in all likelihood be arrested  ). If you use your head, you have a good chance of coming away clean in court. When I say clean, I mean you may be charged with carrying a concealed weapon, but not with assault or a more serious charge.

I've asked several LEO's in my area and most do say, more or less, that if you do nothing illegal with the knife, they have no reason to hassle you about it. Fortunately for me, however, fixed blades up to 4" are OK in Tennessee, whether concealed or carried openly. In any case, use your head and try to stay within the law as much as possible. You wouldn't be here asking anyone's advice if you wanted to attack old ladies for their Social Security checks.

I have started carrying my Stiff Kiss dropoint around my neck. The main reason being the need for more than a simple folder in summer cloths. No coat for the other stuff you see;) . I am looking at my Spyderco Moran also as a neck knife...

The Cuda CQB2 or the Dozier Arkansas Toothpick come to mind immediately. As previously stated, many others work fine with the proper sheath, as provided by Normark and Mike Sastre, among others. As to the legality, I am a 27 year LEO. In my jurisdiction, fixed blades may be carried in the open, and many may be concealed, with a blade length limit. The problem is that while I am a knife collector and LEO, I have had to search for this answer, and many (especially younger) officers may go with their mistaken "belief" of what the law is rather than check first. While you would ultimately win in court if you went by the letter of the law, most of us(knife folks) would rather avoid the hassle. "Avoid the appearance of evil" would be a good motto here.

I carry a crkt bear claw in my rt front pocket, my state WV says a pocketnife (under 3 inch blade) can be concealed as it is not a weapon, it does not mention whether or not the "pocket knife" is fixed or folding.;) :D
