What flashlight should I keep at my bedside?

I am not a flashlight fanatic, just a simple Surefire by the bed. It doesn't get used normally tho, I leave a nightlight on in every room and late at night with my night vision already peaked by sleeping in a dark room, they provide more than enough light to clear my house. I see no need to, a: call attention to myself, and b: ruin my night vision by using a flash light to clear my house. After I sweep the house I will use a flash out the windows and outside if I feel it necessary. I do carry the light with me when house clearing but with Trijicon sights on my gun it really isn't needed.

I don't have children or family that would drop in btw, if so I would probably use one more. The other option is remote switches to turn lights on in your house from the bedroom. Radio Shack sold a nice unit that would handle up to 12 remote switches and that is what I used when I had kids in the house. Nothing like lights going on all over the house to chase someone out.

There are a lot of lights out there-thats for sure,I suggest a simple LED with an easy interface that does not run off any specialised batteries. One handed operation would indicate either a forward or reverse click switch. The obvious ones that come to mind are Fenix(new models coming)-L series,Nitecore,Lumapower,Novatac and one of the most underated-Romisen.The latter are made in China and are great value for money,I got a RC-H3 for $11(£7) of the Bay.Check out Candlepower forums for more advise.

By the bed - a Maglight with Malkoff LED conversion and an Inova T3. Along with a Streamlight TLR-1, but that's not for general illumination duties.
In my office - an Inova T2 and a Fenix P2D.
To carry around - Surefire E2D LED, Surefire E1B, Inova T1, or Novatac 120T depending on what I feel like.

I'd check out the Inova "T" series. For the money, they are hard to beat.

Where do you fellas buy your flashlights from? Are there any vendors you guys prefer, or do you all just get it at the cheapest place you can find it?

I've read two thirds of the thread but if somebody hasn't suggest Skunklights then I will:thumbup:

They are an EXCELLENT tiny back up light that are much smaller than a matchbox, they are solar powered so they charge by leaving them out during the day and emit a very good beam for what you want. No batteries to replace.Being very small but tough you can wear one without any problem or just keep it by your bed-they have a luminous 'tail' so you can see them in the dark. I keep one tied to my day pack to charge while walking and they are an ideal part of a PSK . Very useful all round for a tiny size go anywhere:)

for the fenix or nitecores, i get them from either tadgear or the fenix on line store.

i get all my surefire stuff directly from surefire. (leo discount)

willgoy - will check out skunklights for psk...solar powered sounds good

Morimotom - thanks for the tip:thumbup:

check out romisen.
no idea where they are made but u get 210 lumens for about $25. i love my surefire G2 but romisen is just brighter

I still prefer my 3 D cell and 4 C cell mag light. Bright strong and can smash someone over the head with it and it keeps working.

The main advantage of the larger maglites is that they can do double duty as a baton because of their size and weight. I use them at work and have one handy in the house. I carry a small Lenser on my duty belt for daytime use when doing searches indoors.

I have various other flashlights and lately have been picking up the cheap LED/dynamo styles (~$4) because I never have to worry about battery condition. These are left in various convenient locations. The light they produce is only so-so but good enough for most close up tasks in the house during blackouts or the car for changing flat tyres etc. Cheap enough that I won't get upset if I lose one

Do a search for gander mountain surefire hardwood g2. They are on sale for $24.95. That is the best deal going. Add code GMTN08 for an additional 10% off. I just ordered 4 for Christmas gifts for this year. I think the code expires on 11/30.

I have the Fenix TK10 by my bed. It's 225 eye-searing lumens in a relatively inexpensive package. The medium/low mode is a nice too, because it can last for ~10 hours on 2 CR123 batteries.

Those are probably the non-LED version of the light. Something stupid like 60 lumens for an hour or 120 lumens for 20 with an ultra-high output bulb.

This IS the non LED model. It is 65 lumens for 60 minutes. This IS a killer price also. For a bump in the night light which would only see occasional use it is a pretty good deal. The LED upgrade is available if you decide to go that route later on. I have one of these in every one of my vehicles as an emergency light. For the price they are hard to beat.

please go back and re read metalof post#62.his advice is right on.especialy on going to candelpower forums.

Ended up going with the Surefire G2 LED, thanks everyone! Still keeping the 4D LED maglite in the living room though :)
