What flashlight?

Swiss Army LED AA flashlight. It is well constucted, made in the USA, and guaranteed for life. A nice bright light. Cost is around $25.00.

USWINGS.com has them on sale and is a fine establishment to deal with.

In the end I got a Fenix P1D-CE, and it is great! But now I want more...I ended up joining Candlepower Forums. I guess I'm lost to the light side now. :D

A Colonel in the 101st GAVE me an arc aaa. He said to go out camping/ hunting & tell him what I thought of it. When I got back, 1wk later I payed him back in full ($40) until then I Never carried a light. If you were to ask me, I would gladly buy another as mine is beat up, but I heard that the guy who made them was 1st sued by maglite (junk) then hit by a car & killed so they're no longer made in the US. I hope this is wrong but I can't find any info to confirm or deny this.

Uh, no. He (Peter Gransee) is alive and well. The original Arc company kinda went kablewy, but it was reformed and Arc AAAs are being cranked out all the time. Older models like the AA and the LS (the first ever high-powered LED flashlight) aren't made anymore, but he's working on an updated LS.

The part about him being sued by Maglite however is correct. Something about the engraving on the head near the bezel being trademarked (crock of shit IMO, but Mag has enough money to sue just about anybody and win). The engraving on Arcs is now on the body.

I can see no reason to not have a photon II type of light always on you. Small, light weight and cheap. That said, I have a few minimags laying around from years past that toying with LED upgrades with. So far I've only tried the nite-ize 3led module and the MJLED sandwich. I like the MJ quite a bit, very bright with decent projection and great mattery life (over 20hrs continuous). I'd like to find a set up with better throw than the MJ and still 15+ hrs runtime, but I have a feeling that will cost more than I want to spend...

Here's my review of the excellent Fenix L1P on British Blades:

Don't be seduced by massive power. It comes with massive size, price and battery consumption.

A big, bulky, expensive torch is one you won't have with you when it's needed.

The L1P will fill all of your camping/EDC needs without costing the earth or needing special batteries and a sack barrow to haul it.

Fenix lights are outstanding for the money.

I use a pair of L2Ts as my bike lights, have an L1P on my belt at work and use a P1 when not at work.

i just got a clicke body for my P1D-CE and thought this might be of interest.....

while its a neat lite, and the clickie imho makes it even neater, one thing its not is a tac lite to use in conjunction with a pistol, if for no other reason than i was taught to never leave the lite on while using it in a tactical situation, blink it on-off, with the fenix in doing so ya are cycling thru the different modes/brightness levels, NOT something i really wanna be doing myself in that kinda situation. i thought ya would adjust the mode via turning the light not cycle it thru the clickie switch, so anyway the fenix P1D wont be replacing my SF L4 anytime soon, its a great utility light though, and imho if they would get there ideas in order they could make a great tac lite, but they have not done it yet.

I went through this too. For brightest/cheapest/lights bang for the buck: SureFire G2--perfect for a toss-around flashlight. For keychain: Arc AAA LED (support the small made in USA shop!). For tiny on keychain: Photon Freedom. For cool factor: Any of the SureFire LED lights--take your pick. Hey: I just picked up the LED retrofit for my "old school" Maglight (2-AA) and it works beautifully. It stays in the truck and is a bargain compared to the $$$ for a new SureFire. My theory is to keep batteries on hand that are easy to find. Arc and Maglight "shine" in this regard.

I picked up a P1D CE Fenix a few weeks ago. I love this light. I'm not using it for a tactical light, I'm using it for just everyday non tactical use. :) The thing has been on my belt since the day I got it. I use it all the time. I love being able to switch to the low setting, which gives plenty of light for most things, and knowing I have about 21 hours of run time at that brightness level. I can switch to the high power mode and have 135 lumens for an hour on a single 123A battery, compared to 20 minutes at 65 lumens with two 123A batteries with my Surefire E2, pfff. Gotta love the improvements they are making with LED technology. :) I am so happy with this little light I pre-ordered Fenix's new light that will do 160 Lumens with 2 123a batteries.

One great new light, Amilite Neo T-5, takes one CR123 lithium battery, 2 brightness settings(either 15 lumen or 30 lumen on low) and over 140 lumen on high, click on, 15 (or 30) lumen, click again, 140 lumen, click off, HAIII (very tough, hard anodized) hardcoat. This light has a floody beam w/great sidespill, it's a great edc light.

I totally agree. This is one light that should not be overlooked. I have the T-5's predecessor which featured a 3W Luxeon LED and the twisty switch. It's extremely bright for a single CR123 cell, single emitter light, the machining and hard anodizing etc. is first rate, and it's so small it makes an HDC EDC look bulky by comparison. The new T-5 is even brighter, and, as Chazzy noted, now gives you multiple brightness levels. Although this last feature does increase the overall size somewhat, I think it's well worth the tradeoff.

If money's tight I'd take a look at Dorcy and River Rock, I think they're the kings of the $20 light. Both made a good showing on last years camping trip. For a few bucks more I've been impressed with Inova. The X1 is a handy little office light and the X5 puts out plenty for house and car uses. I've heard good things about Fenix but haven't picked one up yet. I got an E2e for my B-day last year. It's a nice light but I feel it's overpriced. I don't see why they cost double or triple what an Inova or Fenix go for. I think Surefire is on the other side of the law of diminishing returns. You get a little more but you pay a lot more. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, I know Surefire has a devoted following. I just don't have the kind of money where I can justify a huge gain in price for a small gain in performance. YMMV

I recently bought an Inova X03 and have been very impressed with it. 82 lumens, about $50.

imho for the $$ the dorcys are ok, but they dont in any shape of form compare to SF, nor fenix.
