I will be ordering these two cheap knives to expiriment on
($23, from Pakistan and $13, from SZCO):

I would like to completely coat the brass with solder & blowtorch, in order to make it shiny,
like $150 knives you may have seen before from J. Nowill or Scorpion.

Is there a specialized Flux & Solder for brass I should use?

Also, do you know how the handles must be stuck to the tang?
There is no skullcrusher/pommel on the end to be screwed down.
The handle could itself be soldered or glued to the blade,
and then the blowtorch heat would remove it.

I'll bet you a wooden nickel, they will not be brass.

I suspect some sort of cheap cast zinc with some plating (the oem FS MKIII were cast zinc too)

I also suspect a threaded connection at the blade and handle juncture.

I don't understand what you want here, you can polish brass to shiny, but not solder.

I have a "FAIRBAIRN SYKES J NOWILL AND SONS" and it's complete crap too.

Some clarification is due:
I would like to completely coat the brass with solder & blowtorch, in order to make it SILVER colored.

Even if the handle is a cheap base metal (zinc?) if it is plated with brass we are back to square one.
I only say they're brass because their Amazon pages say they are. They didn't say solid or plated though.

"FAIRBAIRN SYKES J NOWILL AND SONS" = complete crap? How so? I was saving up for one.

Thanks for all input.

Using solder to color the handle silver will not work.

Ok I stll need to know what flux & solder to use to color the handle metallic gray.
Maybe special ones for zinc dichromate plating?

I think you need to learn about solder, flux, and blowtorches. They are not paint and a brush. They don't 'coat" things. They are used to join things together in a thin seam between two layers or abutting pieces.

Taking a piece of junk knife and trying to make a good knife from it is foolish. Even with a prettier handle, it will still be a junk knife. You could get a pre-made dagger blade and make your own handle, but from the way the questions are being asked, I would guess that you don't have those skills or equipment.

Plating and soldering are completely different things.
