For those who don't know, that is a Kershaw Junkyard Dog II...A very excellent folder!...I have one...
I used to feel the same way, 'till I received a Kershaw liner-lock. Now, I'm totally sold on them, as ALL 5 of my Kershaw liner-locks are SOLID, and I have NO problem trusting MY fingers to them....Whatever knife you choose, I'd avoid linerlock designs. The LAWKS feature makes all the difference and if the knife didn't have it, I wouldn't carry it.
Thomas, why do some kershaws have big, ugly, and fat (wide) clips like the storms for example and then some like the vapors have nice streamlined clips. I personally like small, almost un-noticeable clips.,,,VWB.
Most of them might be liner locks, but most is not all. The Kershaw mini-Cyclone (Ti-ZDP) is a frame lock, the leek (all but the G-10 variants) are frame locks, the upcoming Shallot is a frame lock, etc... Several great flippers are available that are frame locks, not to mention the stud lock flippers that are available and all the frame lock customs out there.
While liner locks are not my favorite locks, I wouldn't call them problematic. Unless of course you are talking about the pre-LAWKS CRKT liner locks. From my understanding the CRKT liner lock is an inferior liner lock (read: worse than a normal liner lock) that led to the invention of the LAWKS feature. I guess that's cheaper than making a decent liner lock in the first place.![]()
I would feel much better if your five Kershaws had been tested under strenuous circumstances, including torque and spine whacks. Most linerlocks present no problem until severe use and when they fail, they fail catastrophically. BTW, which five Kershaws doest thou have? (I have a Storm or two buried somewhere, but can't recall whether they're linerlocks or not.)I used to feel the same way, 'till I received a Kershaw liner-lock.
