Becasue of the new bag i got for christmas to carry my kit I had to slim down my fist aid kit a little. I figured that I would eliminate any really redundant items. One of the things that fell under this catigory was the large amount of gauze that I carry in my kit. I kept the two israeli bandages and all the gauze sponges. I eliminated the roller gauze because i figured that my triangle bandage and med tape would fill the same roll of holding things together like the roller gauze and roller bandages. Do you think that this might be a smart move or not????

My $.02, lose the med tape and increase your duct tape amt/qty. Be sure you have good quality guaze pads/sponges, i.e. J&J Nu-Guaze pads.

IMO, your best bet is 4x4 gauze (look for 12-ply - pretty much any brand will be ok, but the ply count differs, even within a brand) and 4" Kerlix or similar roll gauze. You can dress just about any wound with these. If you have more space, add the tape & triangular bandages. Triangular bandages are great - sort of the duct tape of the first aid kit - can be used for dressings, slings, etc...

Good luck.

Keep the rolled gauze if you are ona multi days trip you need clean dressing changes depending on the wound. Always be careful when covering a wound with anything tht might keep in too much moisture it increases the chance of infection a wound does need the opertunity to dry out a little. Triangular bandages are easily replaced by a large bandanna caried around your neck or in your pocket. best bang for you buck for a water tight wound cover is Tegraderm they se it in the hospitals to cover up cuts and I.V. needles.

yeah, drop it. keep duct tape and sterile pads. i prefer telfa pads because they do not stick as bad when you have to change them. but these are even limited because i carry tampons and maxipads. for intense fluid containment, nothing beats them, and their sterile. and they will make a female hiking partner very happy if needed for intended purposes. what a sensitive man you will be. ;) i don't even carry triangular bandages anymore, just cut up a shirt, pants, whatever and there you go.
