What gives you whiplash?

A pretty smile always makes me fall in love. Just how it is. When it comes to knives, what makes you do a double take or give you whiplash? For me it has to be bone handles. Lots of great patterns out there. You cannot beat pocket worn bone. One of my favorite knives my older Boker stockman with smooth worn scales. Lets see your head turners.

Bone, stag or horn, I like handles with character, like multiple colors and textures on the same piece.

Gnarly old stag, like they did it in the old days in Sheffield and Solingen. Gnarly with lots of popcorn and rough bark right up to the bolster. That stops me in my tracks every time. Next up will be very pocket worn old jigged bone. Something you can tell the owner didn't just use, but fondled it and used it as a worry stone for decades.

I can't help it, I have a weakness for good stag, MOP and ivory. I even tend to drool according to my wife.

And, it's not anything special, but I love Ebony and a nice emerald shade of green jigged bone.

Vintage Micartas, unique hardwoods, and gnarly sheeps horn; wish that stuff was used more although I don't know how hard it is to work with.

A lot gives me whiplash: unique wood and popcorn stag covers, long pulls and swedges, wharnies and hawkbills and most of all....unusual patterns!

If all of the above are present in vitage items, good gosh, I absolutely go nuts

*psst........Can someone say farmer's jacks?*

Whenever I see a blade that has been obviously used and abused for years, and is stlll working flawlessly

Old ebony USA Jacks, 3 1/2" plus in good to mint condition.

Second would be the same knives in jigged bone.

Many many others give me whiplash as well (you should see my safe) but jacks just do it for me

Great thread. I have a thing for great old bone and stag. Like everyone else who hangs here.:D

Best regards

For me, whiplash comes from outstanding workmanship. A knife is always beautiful if it is well made.
