Hey guys, got a question on glues...I've drilled out a piece of sambar for a bowie ive almost completed. What my thoughts were and an old recommendation is use a 5 minute epoxy mixed with some crushed antler i have on hand, im pinning as well but need a stout waterproof glue that will fill the drilled out hole and tang in position. Open to suggestions and glue brands.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Iasco tesco is our local sinthetics place and they have a marine grade epoxy that is dry to the touch after about a day, you can work it without to much adhesive wear to your tools after three and fully sets after a week. I can't seam to find a brand on the can but it's good stuff and I use it on all my handles.

I looked on their website and it lists "Titebond Wood Glue" as the only adhesive, is this what you're referring to? how resistant to water/blood is it? as I'll be using this bowie for deer cleaning duties and other woods related stuff.

I may just go the epoxy route which seems like a safe bet.

Just use any good grade epoxy and fill it with the resin. No need to mix in powdered antler. I would use 30 minute or 1 hour epoxy. 5 minute epoxy has much less strength.

If you want the max strength, use a structural grade epoxy ,like System Three T-88 or one of the similar West System epoxies. Also, accraglass is superb for filling cavities.

Thanks, I was wondering if the 5 minute stuff would be strong enough but i'll order in some T-88 and give it a try...really appreciate the advice! All my previous knives made I have used wedges and peening rather than glues so its new territory.

Will report back when I've got it in.
