I have been a knife junky for a while now. In the past year I have bought over a 100 knives, most of which cost below $100, some under $20. Buy I have bought lots of high end knives also. I have some striders, lots of benchmades, microtechs, a couple of customs, some beautiful classic slipjoints, tons of Spydercos. And, finally an Umnumzaan.
At first I really liked the knife. But at $400 it wasn't anything too amazing. It went mainly unused It wasn't that much better than my higher end benchmades and Spydercos and ZTs.
What really was the turning point for me was when I finally took the knife apart. The ease and comfort that I know no matter what junk and grease and dirt I get in my knife I can easily get it right back into tip top shape. Has given me the confidence to really use this knife more and more. And on tasks that I would have been very hesitant to use my folders on, like food prep and fishing and hunting.
I have the Reeve bug bad. Many more are on the way

A few things:

1) Evolution of the hobby - most of us evolve in our tastes and wants in a knife.
2) CRK reputation - CRK has been a dominant force in the knife making world for years - you don't get there by making junk.
3) My desire for well constructed things - especially in this "disposable" world. CRK knives are made to last a lifetime.
4) They work well and cut well - they do what they are designed to do. Period.

YMMV

I think for me it was the one piece knives. They are still some of my favorite and most used fixed blades.

Honest take it or leave it no fancy crap working knife with no hidden magic or bs and good honest people who want to support the local community and the united states of america along with their customers. You can have the Best knife in the world but if the people who made it suck then why bother..(insert Mick Striders name here)

Have been a knife/gun nut all of my life. CR knives are the highest standard for all of the knives I've owned. They are number 1 in my book. The workmanship, tight tolerances, quality materials, simple cosmedics and last but not least, best customer service.

I got hooked on all the discontinued one piece knives. A dozen one piece to only 1 CRK folder.

The purchase of a large Sebenza w/blue leather inlay. After that, small Sebenza, small Sebenza w/bocote inlay, then a large Sebenza w/micarta inlay.

Well my story is a little more different. I wanted to see what the hype was about. I ended up buying a Zann and sold it 2 months later. Did absolutely nothing for me. About 3 months later I decided to see what the hype was about concerning the Sebenza. I didn't have my hopes up but man when that knife came in I was in love. It was and still is a small regular "Calvary" Sebenza. Then a large Classic wood inlay, Large "Calvary", Large plain Classic, small micarta and as of tonight a large micarta. I did buy another Zann within that mix but it has been sold. I just can't warm up to the knife. All Sebenza's for me.

I first heard of CRK in the book: KNIVES 2007, in one of the articles about knives being used in Iraq it mentioned that Chris Reeve donated a Sebenza to a soldier, the soldier (who I don't believe was a knife junky) was extremely impressed by it. The author commented that the Sebenza was arguably the finest production folder in the world. So I did some research and decided that I must have one. A month later I had my first small regular sebbie and from there the sickness grew!

It was the first time I held and opened a Sebenza, I realized what that lofty price bought. Had to have one.
Similar thing happened with a Steyr rifle, thought it was way over priced, but after 3-4 shots at the range, I had to have one...

Read abut them in Blade 24 years ago, bought my first (a one piece Aviator) 11 years ago and became so obsessed that I had myself institutionalised 9 1/2 years ago.

Lucky...I've been asking and asking...I'm so addicted I have wedding rings that Chris made my wife and I

It all started for me after owning and using a large number of less quality folders over the years. After gaining the experience of good and bad CRK rose to the top so, I guess it was and has been a gradual thing.

These days there are plenty of quality knives and CRK still continues to be one of the league leaders, that also says something in my mind.

From reading pages on end here on Blade Forums and watching every Sebenza video available on YouTube is what gave me the final motivation to put out for a brand new Small Sebenza 21, plain jane.

For me it was Evolution. I climbed the ladder quick considering I have only been into this hobby for 1 1/2 years now. I was intrigued by the Spyderco Sage 2 and it only made sense to try out the innovator of the RIL or better known as the Frame Lock. With the enormous following I had to see what everyone was experiencing for myself.
