What got you interested in knives?

all i remeber is my first knife was a crkt dont remember what model. i love knives because they can be so simple yet elegant at the same time. i love that you can use them in everyday life. i never go anywhere without a knife

being shipped off to my uncle's farm every summer. My uncle Bob had a PAL easy open jack (which I now have). Working on a farm - you REALLY worked & needed a good cutting tool. Mine was a K-Bar barlow.

Instinct, either you like knives or you don't. I didn't fully appreciate them until I joined BF.

My Dad got me interested in knives. He was in the merchant navy for 10yrs and always carried a knife (I still have his knife). Gave me my first SAK when I was 7 or 8. I've never been without a blade since. My 3 yr old is already asking when he gets his own knife.

I started when I was looking for survival knife. Comparing the knives, I found out that there was a lot of thing to know about it (steel, blade shape, serration or not, handle shape and material, blade length, ...) and that such a simple tool could be so interesting and enjoyable

I guess I have loved knives ever since I was in Girl Scouts and got my first swiss army knife to take with me to camp. When I got a little older, I switched to leathermans and have had many of those over the years. They are the one thing in my life that often disappears forever. I rarely lose things, and I think people steal my leathermans. Recently I thought I lost my Wave and took that as an excuse to finally buy the Skeletool CX that I've been eyeing (even though I did find my Wave after two days of looking for it!). The skeletool has such a great knife on it that it got me thinking... maybe I would like to buy a standalone knife instead of always having a multitool. This weekend I finally purchased two knives on Amazon and I can tell I am already hooked. I started looking and nothing was grabbing me until I saw the Kershaw Onion Leek- the plain silver one. I went to slickdeals to see what kind of deals go around on Kershaws and saw there was a deal on a Kershaw g10 Speed Bump. That looked interesting but I didn't want to choose between the two so I got both. I made some extra money this weekend and its like free money burning a hole in my pocket! Over $200 spent on knives in 4 days if I blow this money on a knife. Probably not if... more like when.

The mere idea behind a tool to reshape our environment is the very essence of what makes us civilized. The cutting edge has always been our most important tool and although we can walk on the moon and surf through cyberspace, nothing has changed the fact that we would have a hard time surviving without the ability to cut things. That is my fascination.
