What handle material? G10 vs CF

CF will chip. As nice as it looks I will never buy it in a knife, i'll opt for micarta or g10 every time.

You mean like this?

I never overlook an opportunity to show my only custom folder, this Ti framelock by Chuck Gedraitis.

Exactly like that.

If you ever grind up these materials you'll see that micarta and G-10 smell completely differently. It's not only the reinforecement that is different, but the resin used is mostly what you are smelling and ofcourse it's a completely different one.

I know because in the past I was a bit lax with my safety and I was not always using a very good mask. Which ofcourse was a very bad idea but I seem to be ok.
I was just gonna say, after reading the first part of your post... If you're smelling it when you grind it, WATCH OUT!!!
But it sounds like you've got it well in-hand.

My entire field of vision looked like that once when I got careless with some chlorine fumes. Went away after about 20 minutes, though. ;)

I personally tend to go with g10 when given the option, but it seems to have more to do with how it feels in my hand than anything. Never had a problem with durability though

eek gads!!! Not feeling it, looks like someone got careless with a blowtorch...or chlorine fumes....but IF you like it, that's what counts :D

You, sir, clearly need reeducation about what a super sexy titanium framelock should look like. Never fear, I'm here to help :D

Sometimes the names are mixed up, but in reality micarta is a canvass (or paper or linen) reinforcement in a phenolic
resin matrix system.

While ofcourse CF (carbon fibre reinforecement) and G-10 (glass cloth reinforecement) both use epoxy resin, not phenolic resin.

not true.

Micarta can be epoxy or melamine or silicone or phenolic resin.

The most common is actually epoxy, but phenolic is also common.

It would be much clearer (if a little more cumbersome) if we just called these things by what they are. For example: canvas reinforced phenolic, or woven-fiberglass reinforced epoxy resin.

On second thought, maybe it is easier to just use single words and abbreviations. :)

That flame anno job is damn fine! Does getting results like that take some serious skill, or can anybody with a blowtorch end up with something resembling it? I'd figure Id see more homemade flame-annodized ti if that were the case, but I thought it would be worth it to ask anyways.

Should I hold my Sage II ti over the gas burner tonight?

No, you need a point source of heat like a propane torch. See these threads:
