What Happened to SR-77?

SR77? Isn't that the Blackbird jet aircraft? Of course its tough, and doesn't rust...Cheers.

Actually the SR77 is an improved version of the SR71 - as used by the "X Men." Nice call V'man...;-)

Well there ya go a new and improved (hopefully less leaky fuel wise) version....but those would be SR-71A thru E series....NO?!!!! Faaaaaaaaaast to say the least...

You know what I would really like to see tested... CPM 1V

3v has really taken off, and it has a good balance of qualities, though it is probably not as beatable as infi in a big blade, but few have tried cpm1v. CPM 1V is supposedly as tough as S7 (much tougher than 3V) even when run at higher hardness levels (or superior toughness at equal hardness), that alone should make it a superior steel, but it also supposedly has better wear resistance as a bonus. Around this forum we tend to appreciate toughness over wear resistance (like infi), so it seems a natural fit.

With all of this steel talk, I still just wanna see a 13010.13, er I mean Bolo 13, with res-c handles made from INFI of course! :D

After beating on both a MMD in sr77 and sr101 RMD its basically what every review has said 101 holds its razor edge longer again no steel is mythical valyrian steel but if you want something close and backed up by a tough warranty can't go wrong with bussekin.
All in my humble experience

No Blain that is Bluntcut posting the Charpy value. I want to see where that was gotten from. The data sheet. Bluntcut did not make the steel so he did not create the charpy value.

If you read the thread, you'll see that is a number that he got.

I will give you the same response as on the other thread:

He claimed he had one, and gave a charpy value to a knife with 80crv2 as being 60 @ 60 rockwell.

A charpy V-notch? Sample HT'd based on HT protocol. I am sure that many custom HT's vastly improve on toughness over standard. Also the sample used in a Charpy test is not a knife shape, but a rectangular sample with a notch placed in it. Comparing bluntcuts number to other steels is like comparing an apple to a carrot. Unless bluntcut does the exact same test to cpm3v with a top HT and of course his own 52100.

We will have to see what Bluntcut produces once he returns from his trip! Is one of the few makers whose heat treatment surpasses what Busse, etc can achieve with 52100!

How do you know that? Has he compared his 52100 to SR101? have you?

Grain size and durability, brother.

Again, how do you know that? You have seen the grain size of SR101? has he?

Also, it isn't just grains, but elements within the steel that add to strength and toughness. Grain size alone doesn't do it. You also have carbide size. You have elements that add or take away from toughness etc. Saying that 52100 is better than SR101 by grain size alone is like saying that Car A is better than Car B because it has a bigger engine, totally ignoring the suspension, frame and tires, which add equal amounts into the performance aspect.
