What happened to the Umfaan?

I noticed that the Umfaan is not listed on Chris' web page anymore. A quick search here on the board dug up a rumor that the Umfaan got discontinued or that it possibly is undergoing a re-design.

Does anyone know what the scoop is?

It will be redesigned to make the stud more accessible + who knows what else.

Anne said that the redesign effort got bumped by the special forces project. They were looking more toward the middle of 2003 for the new Umfaan.
 
Anyone hear if it will stay about the same size? It is the best small knife that I own, and I love the littl' bugger. :D

The Umfaan will stay about the same size - after all, Umfaan means 'little boy', so it shouldn't become a larger knife! Chris is so busy juggling things right now that the re-designed Umfaan is a ways a way. We are glad to hear that it is missed, though - sometimes we don't fully realize where affections lie!

My Umfaan is my absolute favorite EDC. Very elegent and non-threatening to sheeple. Awesome cutting power when I need it. Built like a bank vault and darn handsome to boot! :D

The Umfaan is a big knife in a small, unassuming package. It's probably my favorite CRK design. And this is my favorite Umfaan...

Interesting comments about the Umfaan. However, of all the products in the CRK line it has been the poorest seller, at least in my experiance. I have sold a lot of CRK in the last 5 years but very few ot them have been Umfaans. Right hand, left hand, Unique Graphic, plain or damascus, they have never sold well for me and, now with the Mnandi in the picture, I think the Umfaan has seen it's day.

It is a neat little knife and, as all CRK products very well built but I won't be all that disappointed if it doesn't come back at all.
 
i have five of them and think i got each year. does anybody know if there were more than five patterns made of the normal run?

To each their own. I find the Mnandi to have more panache but the Umfaan to have more guts. I think there is plenty of life left in the Umfaan and I am looking forward to the re-design.
 
Idahoskunk (Fearless Farris?:))- there have been five annual issues of Umfaans - 1997 Circles; 1998 Zigzag; 1999 Arrow through grass; 2000 Straight lines with chevron; 2001 Half sun with spear. Umfaan was also available with all 7 Computer Generated Graphics and in a wide variety of Unique designs.

guess now i need to find the other comp generated ones. i do have one with zebra strips in blue.

SAS - gorgeous Umfaan!

I lucked up on a Blue Circle a few years ago at Blade in Atlanta. Love it!
