What Happens Now?

Please understand that I mean no disrespect by asking this. It is not my intention to offend anyone, or cause any bad feelings. It's just that Uncle Bill played such a central role in alot of peoples lives all over the world, and I wonder what is going to happen to them now that he has passed on.

What happens to Yangdu? What happens to the kamis and their families? What happens to Pala? What happens to Ram and his education? What happens to all of Himalayan Imports? What happens to the Cantina? What happens to all of the Nepalis whose lives are centered around BirGhorka?

What happens to all of these wonderful people whom I have met, and learned of during my time here?

Once again, I hope no one is offended by my asking this.

I think you have asked a valid question, Jeb. However, when you think about it none of this hangs on Uncle Bill. He has passed on. He is in a better place and free of pain. What happens to HI and the Cantina is up to us as a family. Does Yangdu keep the doors open to continue with what she and Bill spent almost 20 years building? That is for her to decide. She is in a different situation than the rest of us. We all understand that and pray for her in this hour. The cantina, IMHO, can last forever if we want it to. It will be up to us to visit the forums and post what is going on in our lives. Sharing the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the malicious...as well as the occational bear thread;).
The ground work Uncle Bill has left us to work with is spectacular, but it is up to us to keep it beautiful and true. He has been preparing us for this day for quite awhile now. Now we must grieve, then step up to the plate and make our Uncle proud.
Will we lose some great regulars during this transitional time? I imagine we might. Will still others turn away because the DOTD are not even in sight? Sadly, yes they will. It is up to each of us to stay or go. We will need Rusty's leadership once he has shed his tears and feels ready to take charge again. We'll need Kis' kindness and steady hand, Yvsa's wisdom, and munk's words to make sense of it all. We'll need everyone to bring to the table what they can. From the artists like Dan and Keith to the "joe average"s like many of us. For ourselves, for each other, and especially for Uncle Bill. I guess only time will tell for sure.

Like Jeb, I hope that the talking about this will not offend anyone. I know it is not his intention nor mine to muddy the waters in this sad time. We can lock, delete or let this thread die out if that is the will of the cantina. Thank you ladies and gentlemen.

Jake

I imagine we'll keep buying kukuris, hopefully remember the golden rule, and be gentle with ourselves.

Bill helped build this house, but he didn't do it alone. I think he would be happy continuing the good that BiGhorka has accomplished.

Yangdu sells khukuris and the forum continues. That is my understanding of what both Bill and Yangdu wanted. (I asked Bill about this several months ago)

What happens now? We understand our loss.

I hope Yangdu does continue it, when she's ready. I'm glad to hear this, Munk.

Whatever happens, we're here to help and do what we can. This family will stay together.

My blessing always,

Nam

I hope it all continues on cause it's such a worthy thing. :( Turning people on here to an awesome tool. Bringing people together who might not otherwise know each other. Cultural exchange, international understanding. Helping out the Nepalese.

Im glad the general opinion is that we will maintain the status quo. This whole enterprise helps people all over the world.

I Stand...

I know I Stand with Rusty, Yvsa, Munk, Josh, Semper Fi, Raghorn, Bruise and others...

I Stand...therefore I am...

I Stand...therefore the Cantina Stands...

Bill's dream Stands by the Cantinistas...

Having recently gone through this with my father, does Yangdu need any short term financial assistance? With the large number of us, a few dollars from each wouldn't strain anyones resources.

I hope I'm not sounding crass, but I do know that even the best preparation can leave you short.

May be something we should do even if Yangdu doesn't ask, as I suspect, even if she could use the help, won't ask for it. And if really doesn't need it, sure we could put it towards something else worthwhile, such as Ram's education, etc. Anyway, I'm in.

"Uncle Bill Memorial Fund"

Was just thinking about this this AM.

John

I'm in if it's asked. I had considered the possibility too. Also, I hope and believe that the Cantina will continue for many years to come. We've got Uncle Bill's example to follow, and if we remember that we'll never go wrong.

"what is going to happen to them now that he has passed on"

We get up, dust ourselves off, and talk about Khukuris!

LET RUSTY notify us if Yangdu is in need of anything. He is not only the moderator, but as close as a brother to Bill.

Different cultures view things differently. Much better to offer help if needed, than to force it upon someone, yes?

Be well and safe.

Good answer. I can't wait to start using all those khuks I "collected" over the winter. Bill wouldn't have wanted them to just sit there. I'll have a bunch of completely nonscientific and possibly moronic reviews to post.

I told Bill some months ago that I would continue to help out with Ram's education. It scares me a little, because he still has 3 years to go. I feel sure that you guys will help when asked, and I'll have to ask, as I can't do it alone. You've all contributed greatly to the two raffles we've had and I truly appreciate it. Ram writes me monthly to let me know how he is doing. He seems like a good young man.
