I'm doing an couple hunters out of s90v I'm thinking of taking the flat grind to .015" behind the edge, the blade is about 1 1/8" tall flat ground to the spine at .140" thick. The blades are roughed out to .020".
I had great success with the hardening they came out at 65-66 rc
strait into liq. nitrogen for 20hr soak then 1 temper at 400F for 3hr another liq. nitrogen soak overnight 2hr temper @ 400F now I'm sitting at 63-64rc
should run these hunters at 63-64rc or are they going to be too brittle and run them at the standard 60-61rc.

Your comments and experience would be appreciated.

I run all my S90V at 60-61. I have never tried it at higher hardness though.
You could temper them down or use one as a test knife and see if you have chipping issues.
I normally also run my edges a bit thinner, around .008" before sharpening or thinner on hunters.

Definitely thin it down more before HT. I temper blades in those steel groups at Rc 60-61.

Thanks for the advise I will temper the two hunters back to 60-61 and thin the edge down to .008" (should be a slicing machine!)
I have an edc type blade in that batch that I'll use as a tester and leave it at 63rc and edge at .015" as a test and if there is no chipping take it to .010"
Thanks for the advise.

One more question, how thin do you take the edge before HT because grinding this stuff hard is a nightmare!
