I love all you knuckledragging mankies.

Specifically, I just get really tired of being held accountable for my actions when others are not - by people who don't even give a damn about the stuff we discuss in here. They just see it as an opportunity to screw with someone they don't like and call it "good." And, that's not going to change.

Well no doubt there is a bubbling over of trolls across sub-forums. There are even members of the BF community who like nothing better than to accelerate hostilities and yet flutter-by on the established rules. They then post in less nice places on the forums and talk about pushing a meltdown using passive aggressive nudges and verbal kicks. They even consider themselves as doing a service by weeding out the trolls, or pushing them into unruly behavior.

I think it is safe to say that some of these folks wade in and will be attracted by protracted, argumentative debates. For the most part W&SS seems to be under the radar, but that is only because we are perceived to be a tight knit group, circle jerk type of group.

Keep you head on the level and follow Tal's recommendations of arguing with logic. Personal insults are judged as meritless by the wider audience anyway. Perhaps the rest of the membership should consider it a duty to call out those providing attacks rather than leave it up to the insulted party to try and defend their honour alone. Often an overreaction is because somebody feels their reputation has been tarnished, such reactions are less likely to occur when others step in to re-affirm that such a thing hasn't happened.

I know that several of us try to make it a habit of trying to correct what we perceive as out of line behavior by posts that center on the behavior rather than who is doing it. There is also the report post option which I use now and again also. I personally think it is better to use a combination of both methods. Perhaps its net-nanny behavior, but mods have a tough enough time weighing each moral issue and are confined by sets of rules on what can and can't be done. Peer pressure can be as strong a behavior modifying force as Moderator points or thread moves.

It's definitely not just you. I have been spending less and less time on here recently for this reason.

If that's the case, then what they permit, they promote. Old saying, friend taught it to me.

There has been some good discussion here and I hope everyone has had a chance to vent and speak their mind. I will take your comments into consideration and go from here.

As for this thread, I am done with it and am getting back to posting gear, trip pictures and answering questions when I can. Anyone that wants to continue here be my guest but to what end are you working towards?

I think this thread has just about run its course. I think there really is no where else for this thread to go and I want to lock it down and move on. Anyone ready to get back to business here?

Wait, wait, I've re-evaluated my position and have to come to the conclusion that it is just myright :D

I disagree and I hope Myright feels the same way. This is still business of the community. The OP posted a reasonable discussion thread. Generally threads are allowed to run their course and eventually die, I don't know if this one is anywhere close.

I would like to think that possibly one of our members that has not been here for a few days might come across and provide the most meaningful post of the thread.

Fellas,

Thanks very much for your input. The mods have heard our concerns and Esav has started up a new thread and made it stickie as well.

Kev makes a great point that from here on out this thread is just going to be one more thread hogging up the first page. It appears we've got all that we'll get out of this thread. I'm shutting down not because I was asked to but because I want to see this sub-forum move on.

theonew - good use of a handle name ;)

Thanks very much for your input!

Anthony
