Don`t change a thing! I have purchased a carnivoir and a sifu through BF and feel good about.I am helping the group that gives me a lot of satisfaction and pleasure every day.I also got a matriach.Mike/Spark,will BF get part of the profits from that?
An analogy would be television. Both TV and BF are forms of entertainment, after all.You "pay" one way or another. If you pay the monthly cost of a premium channel like HBO,you have paid for the priveledge of no commercials. If you watch free channels, you get commercials, another form of payment.
This system works best here since it encourages the maximum number of participants. If BF went to user fees, I would gladly pay.I don`t think that is the best way for all and can live with the infomercials. The delete option is there for more than just looks.

Running a business, web site, and forum takes an extreme amount of time and money, and if you don't dedicate the time to keep things updated and interesting you will finally lose support.

Personally, I have no problems with 'Spark and crew' advertising deals or specials on BladeForums, especially since it's a free forum for all.

As far as the Busse advertisements go, at least Jerry Busse (and others) have been good enough to participate by doing giveaways and adding their expertise to the forums. Where else can you go and get this much knowledge and experience for free? - Jeff

MIKE AND SPARK
Keep up the good work, do what you have to do to survive, so for you have made good choices. I love this site, and if I come across something that doesn't interest me I don't read it, but interests change, and the direction my interests go is greatly influenced by this, my favorite site.
Thanks!!!!!

Hey, nothing is free !!
This forum has astounded me with it's behavior and the gentle demeanor of it's participants.
When I visit here, it often is among the best times of my day.
Keep up the good work guys.
Bill

Don't worry about the newsletter. Most of the "news" regarding the forum is simply the posts themselves. I check the forum every day, usually multiple times.
To be honest, I like getting the newsletter. Every time I see it in the (E)mail, I think "Hey, maybe it's announcing something great, or maybe it's a knife I can afford" Believe me, if I could afford the Sifu, and had a use for such a large knife, I'd be on it in a heartbeat!!!
By using the Power of the Post, YOU help control what the forum is.

Mike and Spark

You guys have a class act going on here. Please do not change your approach. Evolution to ensure the forum's survival is a good thing. Let's put this family sqaubble to bed and get back to the knives that brought us together in the first place.

As long as the marketing is upfront and direct, I have no problem with the site. That's why I stopped visiting the other forum.

Hey I think the forum is in great shape. And getting better.

I think email notification of new products/offers is a great idea.

For the sender it's great way of doing business.

And I appreciate the information about knife availability and offers.

This totally different than junk mail in your physical mailbox.

Nice going Mike and Spark.

Yeah I'm crazy, but what do you want me to do about it

I have NO problems with the ever present little advertizing banners at the top of the screen or with the e-mails that I am sent by BladeForums.

When I joined, I saw the little "don't send me nuthin'" box, and I didn't click it, and I have no reason to do so now either.

I was a little perturbed by the last e-mail because, (1)I'd rather it be a Battle Mistress than the Basic #9, (2)I don't have the money!

Anyway, Kudos to Mike and Spark, and keep up the good work!(advertizements and all)

I need a bigger bucket.

Heck, the problem is not receiving mail, the problem is lacking the funds needed to answer it, keep up the good work.

The ads are nothing, in fact I find them interesting at times. The content of the forums, and the personal growth of the people who moderate, and do own this site are evident. The recent episode with Mike, Spark, and Les showed that EGO can be set aside, and pure business can continue if your good buddies or not.You have made the first step at making this a successful endevour by making this the best knife site on the web. You do not have to love every one, this is business, not family.
Good luck is the result of hard work, and superior planning.

Vendelcrow, "TANSTAAFL", as Robert Heinlein once wrote. "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." Personally, I MUCH prefer Mike's and Spark's fund-raising efforts to the interminable huckstering that PBS television does.

Mike & Spark, keep up the good work, guys.

Well Mike, I would not mind a membership fee to help support the Forum. It is a place that I spend a lot of time at. By the way, how do you tell how many posts have been made by whom? I don't remember when I joined but it has been fun. Take care. Ray Kirk
