What Has Worked - Or Not Worked _ For You?

i did not see anyone talk about a radio, information via multiband radio would be really good to have. i have a small radio multiband that travels with me.
i carry this one, not real loud, but has multi band capability, i like short wave as sometimes i am outside the USA. it is a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes. this and a minimag light that i put in a led bulb works pretty well.

Jeff-

Intereting that you mentioned a window breaker: never thought about revolving doors in that context. But I have just added a Spyderco Assist with the carbide tip, to my duty gear. I also carry a homemade one made from an old drill bit epoxyed into a legnth of metal tubing. Hope to never need either.

Stay Safe!

The spark plug tip is indeed a good window breaker. Many of the scrotes in Manchester who break into cars to steal them or the contents, carry the little porcelain bead off a spark plug. This bead when "flicked" at the glass, can easily shatter it. Many of the bobbies (police officers) I know also carry a long-ish length of plastic baling tape curled up inside their cap/helmet, this is also a method of getting into cars, either by pulling up the interior door locks or working the interior door handle. Years ago I worked as a Retail Store Detective/Guard & most of my time was spent opening cars for housewives who'd locked their keys (and sometimes, KIDS!)inside.

Stu,

I do a lot of vehicle unlocks too. I also find them to be a pain in the butt and believe that if pople had to pay a locksmith rather than relying on the police, there would be far fewer lockouts.

For getting into cars without damage, quielty and quickly, I use a door stopper shaped wedge of vinyl fencing material. I stick it into the space between the frame and the door ,or -even better - the window and the door. Hand pressure will then slide it in, pusing out the door or the window enough to reach in with a stick and unlock the car. The vinyl doesn't even scratch the paint. Takes me about a minute with most model cars.

Take Care,
Jeff

Gallowglass, thats an interesting method, Not heard that one before.
The plastic baling tape is surprisingly easy, one of my neighbours locked herself out of her very new, very expensive Audi & was horrified at how easily i got into it for her. the pull-up buttons were very smooth, but i just put a tiny piece of sticky tape on the baling tape & "boosh" I was in!

do you find that radio has good shortwave reception?? i've been considering one but a friend who is into radios says that most small ones don't have enough power for good reception.

stutoffee-
what do you mean by plastic bailing tape?? is there another name for this??

thanks

I don't know the term "baling tape" either - would appreciate a description as the stuff sounds useful and is probably something we have here, jsut a differant name.

Grobe-

I travel a lot out of the country and carry a small SW radio. I have fund that a piece of bell wire - about 10' - and an aligator clip will improve reception tremedously. Just clip the wire to the antenna and lay it across the room. Best results usually come when you can rig the wire up in a window.

maury and grobe,, I am not sure but I think StuToffee is talking about packing tape or that stuff with the strings embedded in it. Strapping tape?? I think it is called.

it is not the best short wave i have, but it is an easily packed short wave, and will pull in quite a few stations, especially if you add to the antenna about 15 ft of wire. since it is so small i tend to overlook its less than stellar reception.

i can pick up more stations than i thought, but the time of day and weatheer along with atmospherics have much to do with it.
