Old knife from my inlaws' estate. Markings read "Imperial" and "Providence, R.I.". 3" blade. Plastic handles. Operates smoothly, after a little cleaning and sharpening is appears as good as new aside from the patina.

What kind of blade style is this? What's it intended for? Father in law thinks it's a blade shape intended for fishing... but I think it was just the knife his dad let rust in the bottom of the fishing tackle box.

Agree. "Rope Knife" or "Sailor's knife" pattern.
Blade is probably 1095.
The pattern is still made by others, even today.
Stick it in your pocket. You'll find the sheepsfoot blade is quite handy for a lot of cutting tasks.

I'd venture a guess that the sheepsfoot is the blade I use most on my stockman knives
