What have you done?

I just sold a second knife to a friend of mine, since he lost the first one that he had bought from me. Hopefully, he'll take better care of this one.....
as long as his wife doesn't know that he has it. :D

Well, I just gave my middle brother a CRKT/Steve Ryan collab folder sans big-ass button and gave my youngest brother a CRKT/Crawford lg. Point Guard.
My biggest contribution recently aside from that has been the wearing of a fixed blade of my own making. It's a 3 3/4" single edge quenched 52100 blade with single brass guard and desert ironwood handle. It has garnered a lot of attention(mostly positive) for some reason and as I let people see it and handle it they ask LOTS of questions and express interest in owning something as nice for themselves or a loved one. I've nearly converted all of the physical therapists at the PT center I go to and plus several other patients who now know that knives are everyone to carry and use lawfully to enhance their and their loved one's lives. People want to know that knives are used by everyday people and not just the bad guys they see in movies and TV shows. I'm more than happy to spread the good word.

A coworker's son is in cub scouts & he wanted to give him a little barlow that had been in his tool box for a *long* time- he gave it to me to tune up & lemme tell you- it was in rough shape (cutting tar paper, etc.) & had no edge at all. I got as much rust off as I could, got the pivots oiled up & finally put a decent edge on it. The lad was as tickled as he could be. Now he's studying his knife safety manual & "feeling like a man".

I give knives as gifts. I teach my children about knives, and their useful purpose in every day life. I take the time to have friendly discussion with people who have a negative reaction when they see one of my knives. I talk to my state and federal legislators about the laws that govern knife ownership, and how impractical most of them are.

And I always carry a knife...

My wife carries a little ivory handled linerlocked folder, I made, with Linda Karst Stone scrimshaw on the handled.
Son's EDC is a pearl handled one I made for him, and he wants a good chef's knife for his work as a kitchen manager...one of these days.. His girlfriend also has a pearl handled one I made that has fileworked spacer and blade.
Brother in law and his wife, Sister and her husband, number of cousins , my physician of 30 years and old stockbroker, several friends and fellow fly fishermen each have a linerlocked folder of mine, with ivory, or pearl or jigged bone or stag handles. All were gifts....and yes, I do sell most of the knives I make.
My current Physician and current stockbroker will each own one of my folders by next Summer...as gifts.
My Dentist collects my knives...and didn't collect until I shared mine with him.
Our Interim Preacher will be leaving soon and he will take one of my folders with him as a thank-you gift for the time and effort he spent at our church.
I don't want to make many of these knives, but I do one in presentation grade pearl with maroon spacer as a gift for friends who loose a spouse. The sharpness of the knife, the blood red color of the spacer, the purity of the presentation grade pearl are all symbolic of hurt, then the healing with the help of God. I gave one to an old friend who lost his sweet wife a couple of years ago.
Stay Safe,

When i had gotten a SOG flash i had just opened it and was flicking it open and such, when my brother saw and was in awe. So i'm going to spend some actual money and buy him a good solid knife for christmas. (Open to suggestions)

I do a few things pretty regularly...

Give my old knife magazines to guys I work with.

I often deliberately carry knives with unusual aspects, or new knives which often incite quite a few questions. (plain edge vs. serrated, how to sharpen, where to find X knife with X qualities, etc...

I've also opened conversations with complete strangers doing that. Met a guy in a gas station that was curious about my Pocket Hobbit, and spent ten minutes showing it off to him, and telling him a bit of history, etc.

I often refer people to the only decent knife shop I know of in the state, or offer to order up specific knives for them at no profit to myself

I often give nice knives as gifts, whenever possible. It was by doing this my father learned the differences between a quality knife (Spyderco Moran) and the Deparment store knock off crap. Also gave my brother a SOG Tomcat that has become the first pocket knife he's ever carried regularly.

More or less, I guess knives have become a part of me, and most anyone who spends time near me winds up picking up bits and pieces of info, and perceptions one way or another...

Wasz,
You can never go wrong with Spyderco. Delica, Endura, and Native are some great starters for decent money. Quite a few people have said CRKT are good for the money, although I can't seen to get past Spydies. You can also pick up a good Buck or Kershaw at most any Wal-Mart.
