What I have learned...so far

#20 if you sneeze or fart when you are grinding with 36 grit, you aren't going to like what happens...

two words.......black boogers. Also a caveat to the hand sanding/good grinder thing. Even when you do you a good grinder, hand sanding still sucks.:p

art summers told me you arent a true knife maker until you get stitches and he has had a few in his time. i got mine back in 93. #16 dont wear a long sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up, they can still get caught in your high speed buffer. (my right elbow finally healed up)

Another way of putting that would be you have to cut yourself badly enough that butterfly band aids and super glue won't help.

Well, I just started making knives 6 months ago...okay, making pointy, sharp things that resemble knives. Anyhow, below is a list of 10 things that I have learned
9. It takes a lot of time to turn out a quality blade. Unless of course you've been doing this for 20 years...and even then....

#21 - If you get in a HURRY you WILL screw up. :D

Thanks to all for the colorful and informative additions! I find it enlightening to know that I am not alone in the day to day struggles... I'd especially like to thank Del Ealy for taking time from his busy life to talk with me today with some of the most valuable information I've received to date. I look forward to a long and fruitful life as a maker and hope that in 20 years +, I can pass on 1/10th of the knowledge of the folks on BF. Thanks again all!

3 of the many things I've learned

1 HEY STUPID THAT MAY STILL BE HOT!!!!!!!!!

2 Resparators (sp?) are a good thing

3 If the grinder can grind steel then it sure as heck will grind fingers.

-Mike Sheffield

just thought of another one after having to bend a handle up on a kitchen knife so your knuckles dont hit the cutting board. #22. make a pattern from cardboard first so you can eliminate any bugs before making it out of steel.
