I am working on the cokebottle challange and made a spring that bent when quenched, tried to straighten. I was quenching end down and changed to flat.

I tried to edge quench the blade in water, and after just a few seconds put the whole blade into the quench and you can see the result.

I am getting lots of practice cutting and shaping steel.

got a good one going now.

that sucks man i cry everytime i do that, but since i switched to oil it happens alot less. good luck man

I dont mind that much, being new I need the practice. One of the reasons I use 1095 is to save some cost on this learning experience. I think I will try a good quench oil, I used some other stuff and did not get good results with 1095 and someone said to use water which seems to work very well but has some other bad parts.

That sucks man. Look at the bright side though, you can proudly hang that blade on the shop wall as a class A weird crack :)

1095 is a great knife steel. I use it on knives myself. I also like using 1084 and 52100 its the best in my book. Have a great day.--------------
