a 7 or 8 inch blade and a thinner handle. I know, I know, this has been posted before and a longer blade Campanion doesn't look to be on the horizon. At least not in the near future. However then how about in the far future? To me, the perfect Becker knife would be a Campanion with a 7 or 8 inch blade and a thinner handle. Is anyone listening?

Hopefully there will be a 7-8 inch blade Campanion in the works in 2002. I'm really not talking about a new model; just a existing model with a longer blade. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to design one either. Just make the danged blade longer!

NO, you are talking about a new model. These blades are not made of rubber. You have to completly re-tool, re-program(for CNC),re-establish a new price...more material=more $$'s, reevaluate the balance, etc. No it does not take a rocket scientist but it does take a good engineer/machinist to make it happen and that adds up to more costs.
Sure, I would like to see a 7" Companion too but then it would not be a "Companion" would it?
I do not know what a 7" Companion would do that my Companion + Brute,+ Magnum Camp can not do for me.

Muzzlepup,
I know of manufacturers and makers, who make the same model of knife, but in various different blade lengths, and don't call or consider them a new model. However we are just mingling with words. Whether you want to call it a new model or not really doesn't matter. The fact remains that a longer Campanion would be great, and you even would like to see one with a 7 inch blade. Now to state that Camillus would have to re-tool, re-program, re-establish and re-evaluate, sounds very negative on your part. You sound like the type of person that always comes up with the question of why, instead of why not. Making a longer bladed Campanion would not be at all difficult for a company that has been producing knives for nearly 125 years. So it would cost more - so what; that's obvious. Does a 12 inch Ontario Machete cease to be a machete because they produce one exactly the same except it also comes in a 18 inch blade length? Does a Walter Brend Model 2 cease to be a Brend Model 2 because it comes in various blade lengths? Of course not. Finally, your comment that you do not know what a 7 inch bladed Campanion can do that you can't do with your 5 inch Campanion + your Brute + your Magnum Camp, is rediculous. In my opinion, a 7 inch Campanion would definitely do one thing, it would increase sales for Camillus, and that's why they are in business anyway; to make money.

Guys,
First I would like to thanks both of you for your interest in BK&T. Now to see if I can answer some questions....

Volvi,
We have discussed the idea of a longer CAMPANION, but I believe that if/when we get to that project that we will probally redesign the whole knife. We try to design knives in the BK&T line from the ground up as a new model, not just variations of the same model. Less compromise that way. But as MDP stated, it will be awhile before we can bring out any new BK&T's after the BUSHOG. These are machine made knives, that is why customers get to enjoy lower prices on BK&T than alot of the other knives of this type, that are handmade, or semi-production. It is not easy to make a new model, believe me. Granted, this particular new model requested would be easier than others, but the new sheath alone, would require considerable tooling.

But, we DO want to here your requests, as they are used for consideration when we discuss new models.

When your ask about a CAMPANION with a longer blade and a slightly thinner handle, you are close to the description of a BK&T MAGNUM CAMP KNIFE. 8.5" flat ground blade from .188" stock. The thinner blade stock DOES give you a decidedly thinner overall grip,...same scales, but less steel between them. I would suggest you give the MCK a try, I believe you will like it.

Wrong again in what kind of person you perceive me to be.
I am speaking from 20+ years as a machinist and from the perspective of one who has been a CNC programmer and a CNC machinist as well as experience in the planning/estimating for machine shop projects. SO, I do feel qualified in making some of the statements I do.
You seem to object to someone having an opinion that you don't see as going along with your own. Well, we all must bare our own crosses.
Even with my years of experience in the machining trade I would not purpose to tell Camillus "how easy it would be to do...."any project...I think they know better then us all.

WILL:
I fully agree with you on the Magnum Camp's ability to fullfil the nich of a "longer Companion". This is ONE CUTTING FOOL of a knife....it has no idea that it is not a longer and thicker knife.
