What if CRKT made a Sebbie look-a-like.....

..... would you buy it?

CRKT has successfully copied other great names like Kit Carson, Crawford, Ryan, etc. Why not Chris Reeve? Maybe someone should suggest this to them. I would imagine Chris would have to give permission or something.

Or maybe there is another maker who already makes a lower cost version of the Sebbie.

Comments and opinions welcome.

They already did, sort of, it was the S-2 i bought 3 of them, one of them failed a VERY minor lock test when oil got on the lockbar, i got cut, so I don't play with linerlocks anymore. ( framelock is a linerlock in my book)

Actually, there is a CRKT Sebenza out there but it never made full production. The handle was made of FRN, as was the lock bar. They come up very rarely on EBAY, but have been around.

Steve, CRKT don't copy the work of the makers whose whose knives appear in their lineup. They work in collaboration with these makers. That is perfectly acceptable and is done by most, if not of all the other knife manufacturers as well.

The S-2 is no longer in the CRKT lineup.

Jazzman is right, CRKT did get together with CRK to make the Sebenza. I dont think either one was happy with the results. As I recall the lock bar had a steel piece in it to help make it stronger. This was about 6 years ago i think.

Is what a joke?

I remember seeing pics of the CRKT Sebenza on E-Bay. IIRC the lock strength was not acceptable to either Chris or CRKT so it never made it into production.

Two questions:

Why Sebbie? Sebenza is only one letter longer, is the proper name of the knife, and doesn't sound lame.

Why do you take the failure of a failed cheap version of a Chris Reeve knife to equal the unreliability of the original? The Sebenza's lock up is much more secure than any liner lock I have ever seen.

As far as the thread goes, if CRKT made a seb copy, I'd still rather pay 300 and get the real deal, if I ever get over my framelock phobia.
as for the S-2,it is a very sturdy knife with absolutey ZERO play in the lockup or side to side wobble, so it's NOT a shabby knife, nor was it real cheap.
As for the seb, It may very well be the best lock on the market, however, I still wouldn't trust it with oil on it's lockbar. Im sure after reading nothing but praise for CRK's knives, that he does a fine job at defying the undeniable outward force on the lockbar through excellent fit and finish, but as long as I know that force is there, no matter how small it may seem, I'll pass on Framelocks as a design, not as a fault of CRK's or for that matter, CRKT's worksmanship.
please, not another sebenza thread!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
Just my preferences so please, no pie throwing!!

Logan,
Wrong knife. CRKT makes an actual LICENSCED knife, not a copy such as the V-Tech shown. V-tech is also famous for their copies of some Microtech and BM designs.
:barf:

Click on the link's, let it open to a no good window. And manually remove the &size=lg so you only have the #'s at the end. Then it will work.:)
