What If There Were No Guns?

A world without guns, heh?

Well, my wife would have a bigger house, decorated as she always wanted it, and paid for.:D

If there were no gunpowder, other somewhat lesser explosives would have taken their place for pretty much the same purpose. If you're saying no explosives, well..

Explosives are the basis of much of our modern life. Mining,(metals, minerals, ceramics,, and therefore most of our oil, coal...) building, freeways, rail systems. Even the internal combustion engine could be construed to fall in that class.

then you would be in England..............or maybe in the future and Hillary Clinton is Supreme High Commander of the Unified World Front.

Esoteric arguments aside, I would have one/ten filipino bolos. No point in carrying something that I don't know how to use..--Joe

Or I could just carry These -Hahahaha!

Tom, when I read the title of the thread, my first thought was:

...There would be no knives....

Not for us anyway....

'Cause when they get done stripping us of our guns, blades will be next...just look at our neighbors.

made me LOL :)

No firearms in an otherwise modern world...

I would probably carry a short sword of some type and a knife.

For home defense a crossbow would be handy (in fact, a crossbow IS handy for home defense where firearms are illegal).

Good luck,
Allen.

For sure guns are a natural development of technology. And a quite early one at that.
There is no way we could enjoy our current level of technology without the concept of firearms ocurring over and over to many people.
If gunpowder didn't work another violent chemical reaction would be used. Lots of combinations create explosions.
If somehow nothing reacted in this way, skipping over the fact that life is dependent on similar types of chemical reactions, compressed air would make a fine substitute.

I have a vision of hordes of sword bearing morons charging my hill being mowed down by ball bearings shot with my compressed air machine gun.

Don't believe me?
Ever heard of a punkin chunkin contest?
The butane cannons work pretty well to launch pumpkins but the real killers are the air cannons.
THey routinely launch ten pound pumpkins 1900 feet!

That's already been done. Soldiers who used air powered rifles against Napoleon's troops were immediately executed as assasins.

Hmmmmm Lets see......

Bow and arrows for long range

1/2" thick bo shuriken for medium range
