what improvements to your favorite knife?

Dennis, this is an old song being played again (kind of like the axis afck)--- 705 and 710 with bolsters and stag or ivory micarta. Thanks for the opportunity to spout!!!

Large Spyderco Wegner - with 2 steel liners (damn the weight!), better blade steel, and a dark blue g-10 handle - WOW!! :D

Spyderco Military - with a stronger point and a camo g-10 handle :D

Rekat sifu - with better QC!

Greco companion - with a satin finished blade and stag scales :D

Cool, improve my favorite blade. Well, let's see, my favorite blades are Bob Dozier FB knives and I would improve the, uh,........I would change,........... I mean, uh, I guess I'd probably change the uh, .......... can't be done, NEVER MIND! ;)

Have to join the chorus wanting better blade steel for the Wegner. I too wouldn't be adverse say to red G-10 grips.

Would love to see the Paragee w/about a 3.5" blade.

Would like VG-10 or BG42 or one of the CPM steels on my large Apache. Might as well change the anodization to maroon too.

I too would like to see a smaller Magna. Might as well change that blade steel upwards too.

The Paragee already has it. WOuld like to see all my folders change to the stone wash finish.

Lower the hardness of my Pioneer 1 blade. Can't sharpen it for nuthin.

CF EDC-can't think of any at the moment
small Seb-ditto
Apogee-I wish the clip was smaller, but that can be done
BM 710HS-give it an index finger cutout, lose the thumbramp, curve the handle....oh just make an Axis AFCK!
Busse Basics-let there be INFI (ah, they're history, anyway:()
Busse E handles-ditch the palm swell?? handle's too "tall" for my little paws
nothing major...of course, our favorites are going to be the ones with the least wrong with them:p

I'd stretch the Camillus EDC to 3.5 or 3.9" & give it BG42

I'd give my 940 stag scales & a damascus blade.

I'd put a wave, an Axis lock, and a hidden release DA on everything

Definitely want a recurved Axis AFCK with damascus blade forged from 420V & INFI

I'd have my SOG Vision fully serrated

Emerson Commander w/an Axis lock

I've been thinking about making a new handle for my 710 with a better index finger cutout and/or subhilt

Oh, and a mini-Sifu with a 3.6" blade and a major-Sifu with a 6.5" blade

Well I don't actually have a CRKT folder, but I sure as hell would if they'd actually make them even slightly usable by a lefty. As for improvements to what I already have, I think an aluminum or G10 handled Native would be a nice upgrade...and I wish my lefty mini-afck was plain-edged, NOT the damnable combo edge that I used to think was so cool...:barf:

M2 Axis-lock BM 710 and AFCK, both combo-edge;

710: damascus bolsters, remove black coating on the blade & give it a light chemical patina, and add sculpted ivory micarta scales

AFCK: SS bolsters, satin blade, sculpted CF scales.

YEAH, baby!!!

simply make all my folders completely ambidextrous. also spyderholes on more knives (yes i know, copyright) oh and more color.

DAMN !!! :D

I like the mini and mega sifu idea too.

Sometimes you don't know what kind of modification is best on a knife until you actually make it. I have removed "unnecessary" metal from a number of Spyderco knives and rounded their sharp edges. Some of my efforts have produced what I feel is a better product and some of the knives are now better used as paint scrapers. I like the deep "Randall" style of finger grooves and have modified the Buck 124 and SOG Trident to accomplish this (see attached scan). I believe that life is too short to wonder what improvements I might do to a knife. My suggestion is to customize what you are able to do (or have it done by others) and create a personalized knife.

Other than on the little models like the Classic, Rambler and such, I wish Victorinox would lose the damn key rings on SAKs. I'd like my Spartan a lot more without it.

Hey guys...There IS a "mini-Sifu"...(Sort of)...The REKAT Carnivour Cub! It has the SAME blade-style, etc., but without ALL the fingergrooves.:). But yah, I know what you mean...An EXACT "shrunk-down" version of the Sifu WOULD be EXCELLENT!

Hey, Bob...Are you taking notes???.:D.

"An AFCK without scale flex, blade wobble and blade rub oh and an Axis lock. "

WHAT!?!?!? A BAD BENCHMADE!?!?!? I thought only those crappy Emerson knives had those problems?

Yup, 14 Emersons and NO such problems.:D :D :D :p :p :p

Only changes: make them available with Talonite blades.

Great question. These are the improvements I'd like to see on my favourites:

Camillus EDC: Make it a bit larger.
Benchmade AFCK: Make an Axis lock version.
Spyderco Wegner: Nothing, it's perfect.
Emerson's production knives: Please, please improve your QC!!!

Nice modification job on that SOG! I find Randall style deep finger grooves ala' Model 14 make for a very comfortable & secure grip.

How did you shape the finger grooves? I've been thinking that an oscillating spindle sander (Delta BOSS or similar) would be just about right for this because you can get different size sleeves and grits for it. It would also seem to be a good tool for enlarging a choil, which is a mod that Busse Basics beg for IMHO.

I'd also have all folders drilled for deep carry clips in all four positions, so the user could carry it tip up or down, right or left handed.

Glockman - I have a Carnivore Cub, and it's a great knife (thanks Malcolm!) but it's not a mini-Sifu, specifically, the recurve is much less pronounced.

And I'd like to see some of CRKT's designs with better materials, at least ATS-34 & G-10.

I'd like to see all CRKT knives offered in a top of the line model with a better steel and stonewashed blades. Imagine the PK companion in VG-10 and stonewashed. And using a better sheath material for the companion and bearclaw. Cocealex/kydex is a good pick.

The only thing I can think of, would be a better steel for my LCC. I am actually going to get some customization done to it this summer. I'll get the Ti bolsters anodized, and have some pearl scales added. I'll keep the Carbon Fiber scales to trade off, for working.

Actually, Bandit can do some customizing for a lot of you. He does scales, bolsters, polishes and satinizes blades, etc. There are some great examples on his site. He might be able to make your knife perfect!

I'd second a lot of the suggestions I've seen here. One thing I'd like that I don't think has been mentioned in the other posts is a thumbstud on the SOG Tomcat. The Tomcat is a great knife (especially the model with the cocobolo scales), but would be even better if it could be opened with one hand. I added a one - arm bandit to my Tomcat, which works like a charm (the one - arm bandit doesn't work equally well with all knives). However, a production thumbstud would certainly be more esthetically pleasing.
