My hotrod knife is just a knife designed to be a great cutting tool. No cutesy parts, etc. It is called a Spyderco Gayle Bradley. Here is what the maker Gayle Bradley says about it.

Spyderco endela wharncliffe in k390. Rit dyed, bronzed hardware/clip, blade mod, acid wash.
Thin geometry and wharncliffe make for extreme cutting power!

I think a lot of the Spyderco seki city frn models with upgraded steel or serrations would qualify as a hotrod. Cheap and mean

From an edge geometry perspective, a hot rod is a knife with a perfectly heat treated super steel that can be profiled to a fairly acute angle and that is thin BTE, that can be used without chipping. Eg, a suitable steel would be Rex 45.

I never heard this term before ! but when I was shooting using using a comp 45 auto us guys would call them race-guns, mostly because Theas guns where so dam fast.

This was a gift from my friend David Mary . It started life as a SOG jungle canopy, but was refined into a beastly cutting tool. It's my go to kindling splitter, and an awesome knife for cutting around the butts of trees to be felled. Preventing my finding any hidden fencing with a saw.

I think limited edition/sprint knives count as hot rods when the steel and/or handle materials are upgraded.

Example: ZT 0095. Standard version CPM-S35VN.

I have the LE 0095BLKS90. CPM-S90V, dlc blade and handle, pivot screws that look like rims from an 87 Iroc-Z, and a green anodized standoff.

Basically, they upgraded that 87 Iroc from the 305ci TPI to the L98 350 with a supercharger, added a killer blackout paint job, and green underbody lights.

The knife already has great ergonomics, really my hand perfectly, and has a nice balance of blade in that it's thick enough to handle tough tasks but thin enough to cut well.
