What is a Busse knife worth?

For those interested in the knife in question here is a pic sent to me by Kwai.

SHSH II with half moon pommel.
Slotted fasteners and smooth micarta.
Thickness??????
A2

.

It has smooth handles, but also has large front and rear holes, hard to tell the actual blade material, I would guess A2, but what do I know!

I was wondering when the Steel Heart master was going to show up??? :D

I had a verified INFI SHSHII with that same sheath and handle so It might be INFI. But if I had to bet, I'd say A2.

just remember I posted "I'll take it" before it made it to this forum:D

This far into the thread and so far nobody has ventured a guestimate? I'd say the knife is worth between $700 and $800, maybe more, based on my admittedly limited expertise. And yes, I want it. Anyone else have a better idea of what this knife might be worth?

I think it's worth a hundred million dollars.

I think it's worth ONE HUNDRED BEEEELION dollars.

Hi Guyon, fixed your post. :D Slightly off topic, I think the "questions" about Busse knives not shipping with factory sheaths is effectively answered by the pics of the sheath above. Does anyone think that beautiful knife belongs in a sheath like that? I'll take a nice Chuddy Bear sheath over that monstrosity any day of the week- twice on Sundays.

If you think that is ugly, you ought to see mine. Basicly a folded over pieck of kydex angled on the bottom. This is for a fatty SHSHII slotted that was sold to me as A2, but has those pesky dimples.

My other SHSHII is hollow tubed and has a really neat High Desert Low Ride sheath, but the 2 knives will not fit in each others sheaths.

So what about the value?

Rob,

I'll take the tube fastener SHSH. :D

Don't put tooooo much faith in the dimples as meaning INFI.
Plenty of A2 knives out there with dimples as well.

Yeah, I know. My 2 fatty SHBA's have dimples but the A2 grind. Pretty sure they came from the same web and same grinder. I've never seen more 2 identical straight handles of any size. Usually a glance was enough to tell any of them apart, be it SH's, BA's or MS's, back when I had multiples. When the handles are dirty from carry, I can't tell one from the other.

Anyway, A2 or no, I carry both and have the utmost confidence in them. A2 is no slouch.

Tube fastener SHSH? Hmmmmm NO! But if I change my mind, I'll give you first shot.

Rob

Eric, thanks for the legwork. I'll know better, should I ever post again. :)

Lessee... Blade measures 8 3/8" from handle.

The thickness measures ~0.030 - 0.0305 in front of the handle. Sorry, I couldn't get it to go over 0.031"!

The sheath is made by Eagle. It's the only one I've seen that uses a wrap-around cord for retention.

I'm quite sure that the steel is A2, as INFI wasn't heard of at the time... I got it in '98 or '99, previously owned.

I think that answers all questions?

Does this link work to show more pics? I just set it up last night.

Oh yeah... About the "solid bolts" business... Not being adept in BusseSpeak, I meant that they were not hollow tubes. Sorry if that was misleading.

Link works fine.

You have a very nice SHSHII there, don't undersell it.

I'm still curious as to estimated worth.

Hi Rob, that is just unconscionable. A knife like that in a sub-par sheath? No no no, that simply won't do. If you like, I'll take that SHSHII off of your hands, free of charge, and give it a proper pair of pants. :D

Im sure you can end up selling the steel heart for $1000.
There are many people on the forums that would give an arm and a leg for that paticular blade. Well at least that is what I would offer you if I had that kind of cash to throw around. Just list it on the exchange and see what happens..

I always like the people that say "I'd give $XXXX for the knife, if I had the money", I'll say what I always say, "It is worth what someone is willing to pay". I PM'd you a price value range before I saw the pictures, after seeing the pictures, it would be within the top range of what I said. You are the one that needs to determine a price you would like to get for it and list it in the Exchange, if you want to take a chance on a higher price, you will need to do an auction. So, there is my $.02 worth.

I may have pissed off some folks that want this steel heart for a cheap price.

It is what it is...

what part of this did you not understand:D

I will repeat, I had the exact same knife with the exact same bolts a while back and it had the same sheath and it WAS INFI. Unless that is my old knife, there was more than a few of those sheaths. In fact I remember seeing an SH-E with one as well.

98-99 INFI was well known at the time since I placed my order for it in 98.

I don't think anyone is angry about it.

But Tim is right. I may also think that this knife could be worth $1,000 but you have to find a guy with the $1,000 to spend that thinks it is worth $1,000. It may be that there are only guys here that think it is worth $900 that actually have $900.

Which is why they may still have the $900 in the first place.:p
