what is a "Carpenter's bundle axe"?

Many thanks for the links, Ravaillac. What a large variety of axes are used in France. And those large heavy ones with the very wide blades were spectacular. I get the impression that timber framing is a growing industry in Europe.

Well it's hard to talk for all Europe since it sprawls from Eastern Poland to Southern Spain and from Northern Norway to Greece, but yes in France since the 2000s (earlier in Germany) there has been a revival of wooden houses even in areas where they weren't traditional.

Amazed to find such enormous axes in use. Some with blade lengths 28 cm, or more! Can one find these old axes in markets or country stores?

AFAIK those are not very common. Some antique dealers specialize in old tools but I've seldomly seen axe and rarely "spectacular" ones although I'm not a specialist. Maybe also they think there isn't that much demand for those. Keep in mind those were specialized items that could also be replaced by general purpose tools and elbow grease also not every carpenter was fully kitted and those disappeared quickly when power tools were introduced.

I think that type of item is more common in germany, at least ebay.de often have antique axes and axes heads, some of them carpenter axe (Zimmermanaxt or Zimmermanbeile). Also Fitzi in Switzerland makes a very typical Alpine/Center Europe "goose wing" broad axe:
