What is a chitlangi good for?

I have a 21 inch model coming to me from a recent Yandu clearing house.
A little thinking tells me I know just about nothing about what this blade is good for.
Heavy chopping? Can i take a tree down with this?
Quick brush work? I assume so, a light khuk with length should be able to do this.

I would realy like to be able to split firewood with this khuk with reasonable results, take a tree or two down the line.

But what exactly is the 21 inch chitlangi's forté?

While weight varies and the actual weight of the khuk you get will influence things a bit, I would say that a chit is a pretty good "general-purpose khuk", particularly if a somwehat longer reach is desired.

I don't have a Kobra, but I feel it is safe to say that no HI khuk is a machete. That is just a different beast.

Fullers work wonders on large blades.

Yep, she leans more toward weapon than tool but it will still do a very respectable amount of field work.

I had an 18" that I used to put a good bit of work in, around the hunting cabin, last season. I cleared light brush, and chopped down trees up to about 5" in diameter, though it worked better for trees no more than 3.5" or so.

I haven't had a chance to use my 21" chitlangi as much, but it is a SUPERB weapon. Having more weight, thickness, and length, it should chop even better
than the 18".

The chitlangi is not a heavy chopper, but if you let the blade do the work instead of trying to force it with the handle at impact, you will be amazed at how well it cuts. It is a graceful, useful model and you will enjoy wearing and using it in the field.

It is a good chopper, stronger than the GS bacause it has some extra mass and strength toward the point (the double fuller adds an extra "spinelike" ridge of steel in mid-blade). The GS inn 21" is usually lighter, because of one broad fuller.

I kinda look at the 21" Chit as a really stretched out and slimmed version of the YCS.

:D :D :D :D

Nothing much I can add. The 21" Chitlangi is one helluva chopper for its size! Cuts like a much heavier khuk for me and is good in tight quarters. I tested mine on a green hardwood with about one inch plus branches that were tightly grown together.
It would take several at one swing. Surprised the hell outta me as I didn't think it would cut but maybe one or two at a time. :D

I think if i keep my head on straight there isn't much that khuk can't do for me in reason.

thnx to all.

I really like the weapon-like khuks. If you decide it's not your cup of tea after playing with it, let me know ;^)

Don't have one but suspect it's pretty close to the chainpuri. Marvelous handling. But then 2 of mine are 17"ers - one at 20 ounces is good workhorse, and other at 14 ounces in the same length is more weapon than any kobra I've played with yet. You'll just have to wait and unsheathe it yourself.

Bruce, this was horn handled, correct? This model is more of a weapon than a chopper, but still chops very well. It's not going to chop as well as a chiruwa AK, at least IMO, but I think it was designed mostly to lop off body parts more than cut down trees. Anyway, if you decide it's not your cup of tea let me know and I'll be glad to give you just what you paid for it.

Norm

Well thank you for the offer, if this blade cannot chop to reasonable satisfaction i will be getting rid of it.looking for something along the lines a nice size AK or gelbu special. But full refund can't argue much with that.
If it does end up in the "out" box the forum will know.
