What is a Folding Bowie?

Stunning pics here thanks, but what has me on the edge of my seat even more is waiting to see what Bruce comes up with. :D

this pobber you are right they were made in the late 1800 i have one made by a sheffield knifemaker called w.h.wragg his brother eric made a lot of foldingbowies the swiss & germans i think they still make them

I don't remember seeing this thread, but I'll gladly add to it. Here's a Bailey Bradshaw folding bowie with a Sawby lock and a thumbstud. I really like those Bradshaw's posted 5 years ago by Megalobyte. Great looking knives on this oldie but goodie thread!

KOOL knives. I especially like the one Chuck posted.

I could also see how some may consider a "swing guard" such as Case made as a folding bowie.

Good thread! To me a folding bowie isn't really a bowie but a folder with a bowie shaped blade. Here's one I made last month..

There are probably a lot of answers to the folding Bowie question but I think this is what is thought of traditionally when the term comes up. Not sure how much use one of these could actually provide but nifty idea. To my knowledge the only one I've ever seen that you could actually chop with and use like a Bowie fixed blade chopper is the one done by Andrew Demko called the Espada although if you wanted to chop with a CQC12 custom by Emerson I suppose you could get away with it for a time anyway before the lock had some issues or things got indented some.
