I see that Cold Steel has a langette as a option for the Rifleman's hawk. What is it?

Also, which length of handle do you recomment?? They have 3 lengths...

Langettes are long strips of metal fixed to the sides of polearms below the head -- axe or hammer or mace -- to strengthen the pole close to the point of impact.

I bet they were, in the days when polearms were life and death. Never beat on one myself to find out.

They would also reduce the chance of having the head of the weapon chopped off.

They were used for reinforcing of the shaft below the head. They also probably aided in spreading out some of the forces during impact.

i put some on my cs frontier hawk when i first got it. my thought was as much trouble as i have keeping the head on the handle with the old plainsman hawk this will keep them from sliding off. it felt weird on the light weight frontier hawk so i removed them. when i went to put them on the plainsman i found out the handle was different and would not fit them.
