In a thread, in ths forum, titled "Regular Trappers", late in the thread after many pictures of trappers had been posted, "Blues" (Elliott) said; "......................the OP requested "Regular Trappers" and not mini trappers, heavy trappers, slim trappers and all the other variants."
That brought to my mind just what is a Regular Trapper? Is it a 4 1/8" long (closed) two bladed knife comprised of a clip blade and a spy blade with square bolsters? What about a 3 5/8" trapper with a clip blade and spey blade with square bolsters. Many times a kinfe such as this is called a mini-trapper but to my mind it is just a smaller version of a regular trapper and not necessarily called a mini-trapper by all manufactures. Do rounded bolsters or different blade shapes (wharncliffe, drop point, spear, etc.) on a 4 1/8" (closed) trapper prevent it from being described as a "regular trapper"?

I have several trappers of varying lenghts, blade configurations, bolsters (one a bareheaded trapper) and to me they are trappers.

So what is a "regular trapper"?

Elliott, I am offering this up for discussion and by no means mean it as a negative to you in any way. Although probably not your intent, I feel you have raised an interesting question, at least in my mind.

Ed, not only are you able to divine what I do or don't intend when I post, but you also have some creative ways of putting my post in context as well as quoting it.

From Levine's Guide (IV):

A "Trapper" is a jack knife with two specific full length blades. The master is a clip-point with a very long clip. The second blade is a long spey.

The "Standard" or "Heavy Trapper" is around 4 to 4 1/4" long closed. It is built on the swell-center regular jack handle die.

"Light Trappers" are built on a 3 3/4" or larger slim serpentine handle dies.

"Mini-Trappers" are compact trapper-style knives, both standard and lightweight, around 3 1/4" to 3 1/2" long.

"Premium Trappers" are built on serpentine premium stock handles, both round and square end. They range from 3 5/8" to 4 3/8" long.

"Double-End" Trappers are similar to premium trappers, only with one blade in each end.

The "Large Trapper", like the standard trapper, is built on the swell-center regular jack handle die. At 4.5", is is not much longer than the standard trapper, but it is nearly twice as wide and heavy.

You can do the rest of the research on your own and please don't post my quotes out of context in the future. If you have a question you'd like to pose to the forum, just ask it.

Thanks for the info Elliott. No harm or foul was intended by the quote.

And the questions could have easily been asked without bringing me into the equation. That's my point. Let's leave it there.
