What is a Sheat ?

I keep seeing the word Sheat used instead of Sheath on makers sites and elseware on Bladeforums. Is this an alternate spelling ??
 
I don't think it is an alternate name or spelling, bladesmiths are notoriouslie bad spellers :D .
 
Our education system collapsed in the late '60s so young guys don't do well in the spelling and grammer department .Yes it shows in the forums . The internet and texting shorthand has made it worse.

I notice it a lot on makers web sites when they that they will make a "sheat" for their knives, or that each knife comes with a "Custom Sheat". If you are a paying member here use the search function and search for "sheat" and you will be surprised at how often it is misspelled. I don't mind so much on the forums but misspelled words have no place on your web site if you are to be taken seriously.
 
I've noticed the misspelling an awful lot in eBay knife auctions coming out of England.

Was at a regional show and saw two signs, "Knifes and sheafs", and "credit cards excepted".

Didn't stop.....:cool:
 
Grammar was the nice old lady that whipped my butt when she heard me yell "Aw Sheat" when I cut my finger on "Grammpa's knife.:)

Mete, actually I think the educational system crashed in the late fifties. I am one of its products and rely seriously on the spell check. Spelling seems to be the major area afflicted. I do think it would help some if they just read what they typed before hitting the post button. The spell check won't catch correctly spelled incorrect words. Fonetics cuks.

thoughs that it bothers,,, hear me say

some time after the age of 50 a few years ago.. it don't bother me any longer
if it bothers you :) please get over it..

it will just cause you more stress that you don't need in your lives :D
 
I cant spell worth a bent who ha! If you think public education was starting to slip in the fifties lookout its all but worthless now. I got nothing good to say so I am going to shut up now and maybe go make a sheat.
