what is a survival knife for you?

You broke a lile? Or you broke a movie prop/displaly knife. I was just wondering because randalls are well over $500. I as wondering if anybody has put a blackstar or andrew clifford through the paces or just let them be due to the posibility of damaging a high dollar knife.

A survival knife is a knife that will NOT rust. imo.
Mission Knives.

I follow along the same lines. All of my packs have a little stainless Mora attached to them. With a modicum of basic maintenance these should be close to set and forget back ups.

It would be bc those Rambo knives are held together at the blade by a nut and bolt.. Hard work = broken. Been there, done that.. its Full tang or nothing.

Not all of them are made the same.....and by "Rambo" I'm going to assume you mean the recycled tin can handled TAIWAN knives, right? Because if you've never used a good quality, well made hollow handle knife then you may be surprised. I've used mine in pretty tough situations where a leather stack Ka-bar would easily fail, among others such as any poorly temped full tang would. It all depends on whether you're using your knife as it is mean to be used or as the ultimate "one tool for all" mentality of use.

I'll taker one of my knives over nearly anyone's....full or hollow handle!

I've learned that recently through another makers knife so yes, I'm talking about those cheap Chinese ones.

Just to clarify (im sure that's not what you meant), to say that KA-BAR has anything less than a proper heat treat on their 1095CV would be a misstatement. They've been using the same steel since early in the last century and even include differentially treatment of the tangs being softer to put off breakage.

When I mention their name, I'm refferencing the brand not the Mk2 Fighting Knife.

To me, it means a low maintenance knife. Big enough to do food prep, wood prep, and not to fall short when I need it. Easy to sharpen with Makeshift materials. Steel you can chop, slice, cut, and manipulate without worrying about stress breakage. I am going to be optimistic and interpret this thread as a "personal opinion" and not a "people who talk about survival are stupid" my esee knives (izula 2, 3, and 6) I think of as survival. My para 2 I could survive with, not an ideal choice though. My Zdp delica.... Love it, but would feel inadequate if it was my only blade. I feel like blades are bought for different reasons and a (smart?) owner differentiates between philosophies of use for each blade. Feel free to disagree.
