What is best

How about a Becker Bk7 plus a smaller folder like a Delica or Calypso Jr.? Folding saw would be nice, too. Just not really a fan of SAK's.

so is the highlander a good or bad choice cliff?

Not for serious work, the handle will cause ergonomic problems and the steel and primary grind choice have issues with durabilty, and binding.

Is there any place i can get a customized knife for the right price.

I think you can get the RD series from Ranger knives for under $100, I don't know how much the flat ground ones go for, but you can pick up the hollow ground ones on Ebay for wya under $100. There are not a lot of customs in that range though, you can find lots of decent production though.

Me either for serious work, just something you can always have on you. I always carry a Rucksack, and the main blade and saw can do a lot of work, though not overly efficiently.

If I am actually going in the woods I pack an actual saw, which is several times faster and much more efficient energy wise, especially on larger wood, I take a pack swede saw if it is going to be serious.

The main SAK blade is nice for most wood work but the handle has horrible ergonomics and is limited to to the low joint strength compared to a decent one bladed folder.

In the short term they are alright, but again more of an emergency tool rather than something you would want to do a lot of work with, but you can't always pack a full size folding saw.

The screwdriver makes a nice chisel though with some work, and in emergency situations the awl, file and other tools have uses.

thanks everyone. If you run across a good knife post it here if u have a chance

If any one knows any sites that have their knives like the tracker design, give me a post.

For under $100.00 I would recommend Randalll Training/Adventure Ontarion RAT-7 in D2 or 1095 or Becker knives.I have seen them under 100.00 on ebay. You also may considert he US Air Force Survival knife for around $30.00 or a good ole Kabar.Any knife mentioned here would be better than any of the garbage you want to buy, and they are made in the USA to boot.Forget the paratraxxcrap and the $5.00 Rambo knife that would probably get you injured long before helpng you survive.keep an eye out in the f/s forum here for good buys on quality knives.

That paratraxx looks like a pile of ripped-off crap.
I wonder why it was featured in two magazines!
Cliff you should get one and destroy it.
T'would be a hoot to compare it to a real Tracker or WSK!

The Spectre has a really thin point, I would not want to be throwing that around or working with it in woods. I'd take the Bushman. You might want to check out some posts in the Wilderness forum where it has come up frequently.

Or what about the cold survival rescue knife or the recon scout (cold steel) or the bushman

The Recon Scout is a decent working 7" blade with a decent level of cutting and chopping ability. However the guard tends to loosen with time though and the Kraton grip will wear and loosen. I don't have much use for knives like the SRK for wood working, they are a bit too short and stout, they make nice heavy utlity knives though.

lets say i want to go pig hunting with the knife also down in florida then what type of knife would be best?

A pig hunting knife and a camp knife are fairly different, there is a thread running now in which Larry Harley, a knife maker who runs hog hunts, describes the features of a pig hunting knife.

The Aitor has many of the same features which tend to catch the eye such as saw backs, but in reality add little function and tend to actually limit the versatility of the knife.

In general you are better off with a design which is simpler.
