  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What Is CRKT's 1.4116 Stainless Steel ?

I don't know where the idea that this steel is somewhere between 440A and 440B would have come from. 1.4116 only has .45% -.5% carbon, well under even 440A and about the same as 420HC. It also only has about 14.6% chromium. All the 440 steels have between 16% and 18% chromium. It really looks more to me like it falls between AUS-4 and AUS-6. It is actually very similar in its chemical composition to 425M.

I love 1.4116 for certain applications

It's extremely corrosion resistant and takes a screaming edge.

Amazing for kitchen knives and I really love using the Cold Steel Roach Belly and also the Canadian Belt Knife as camping / picnic / travel food prep knives.

Even though this thread is a little long in the tooth, to add, I think that 1.41** steel is what Grohmann uses in their folders. Other than the mini-Russell, that was pretty blunt and needed an initial sharpening, my Grohmann jack knives seem to hold an edge for a reasonable length of time.
