What is D2E?

Just curious if the composition of the new D2E steel is publically known or still a secret. I've heard claims about it being tougher and more stain resistant than D2, but does it have more chromium to make it a stainless steel? Any more substantial information?

Has anyone with a Pikuni done any testing?

There are two small reviews on it at this forum by Rob Simonich.

You can either do a search by topic, "D-2", or by author, "Rob Simonich".

Or you can click Search topics of "last 100 days", and look at page 2.

Thanks, but I did see those. Looking for some more results on edge holding and stain resistance. Since we haven't heard from Rob yet (and I understand he has his nose to the grind stone...literally). Has anybody else done any testing?

I would also like to know the composition if that were possible. It sounded like Rob knew there were more chromium in it...the question is: Is it enough to make it a stainless steel?

Just wanted to know a little bit more.

Jeff Randel swears it is more stain resistant than ATS-34. It is a special flavor of D-2 that we import. I think Jeff has more feed back than anyone seeing he took a couple of our knives into the Jungle. We did a diffrent heat treat (I am not very technical) I do know from listening to Rob and Bob talk they did some triple draw and they are a RC 59. Jeff Randel had a RC 62.
As to the actual formula I am not allowed to tell.
Hope that answeres your question
