Had a Gerber when I was driving OTR, it served me well with Plyers, Knife, Seretted Blade that was great for cutting rope, and cross & stranded head screw drivers. The finstruction Gerber the Plyers broke from over use. The warranty replacement lasted so well. Now most of what is available is made in China or Tiwan and they appear to not be very well made.

Suggestions under 100 bucks.

Pick a Leatherman. Wave, Surge, Supertool 300 or, if you prefer the minimalist approach, the Skeletool. All are rock solid and available in your price range.

I'm a Leatherman fan too (as opposed to Victorinox or SOG). I did have one Vic (it was fine) but I try to support US companies when I can. Go to the LM website, they have a tool to help you pick out the multi-tool best for you based on size, tools that you want in it, etc.

Any of the leatherman tools are good, but Vic are fantastic, and SOG gives you the ability to customize the tool set. So really it comes down to what you like. I love my Rebar, and skeletool CX. the higher end Gerbers are still worth looking at, the low end I'd avoid though. At the end of the day a working tool will break sometime, but thats what tools are for.

Over 100 bucks I think but the Charge TTi. If you want a GREAT multi-tool it's hard to go past the TTi. Not cheap by any stretch but the best things never are

I sell them for a living, I personally carry an OHT, great tool I recommend looking into it if it suits your needs, however if your looking for a really sturdy heavy duty piece of equipment a surge is the way I usually recommend going, it's like a wave on steroids. Either way you can't go wrong with a leatherman

I generally pack a ST300 if I am expecting big jobs and a Rebar for day to day stuff.

I suggest the Leatherman Supertool 300 I have one of them and it is a great Multi-tool.

You can pick up a Leatherman TTi on ebay for around $100. They are hard to beat!

Need pliers? go with Leatherman - Wave is nice, real popular, but pliers aren't spring action. I'm a big fan of my OHT. Has the tools I need, doesn't have stuff I won't ever NEED to use (eyeglass screwdriver, etc).
Don't NEED pliers? Victorinox has a ton of options (SAKs). I love the huntsman. They also have the swisstool and stuff, which I have one of, but it stays in the car, never gets any use, so I don't know how I like it.

Regardless, don't go with SOG, don't go with Gerber. That's where you go wrong. New Gerber stuff is SHIT, and I've never really been impressed by SOG.

Leatherman Wave is a nice tool and their customer service is great. But honestly, I prefer the Sidekick model for about half as much money. Smaller and lighter, too.

The Victorinox multitools, however, are much higher quality -- also a bit more spendy. But you can still get one that meets your $100 budget.

I happily put up with the extra weight and size of the Surge , but many people seem to shy away from it for that reason .
I own a Sidekick , Skeletool , Wave and the Surge .
I do occasionally carry the Wave , but the other two never see the light of day anymore .
When I do use the Wave it always surprises me how small it is , it seems like a toy And kind of delicate .
I feel I should say that I don't work in an office , I'm outside all the time in a agricultural contracting environment so my requirements are probably more hard core than most . Also I never carry a Multitool on weekends and after work , for me a multi is just another tool of my trade and the Surge is a tool not a toy .
