What is hardness

Stronger, Harder, More brittle, less ductile, lower fracture toughness

I know we currently get HRC as a standard and many of us totally understand that value, but if they would give us the Fracture Toughness value standard as well, we would have a TON more information, which is kind of what he is trying to get to in that video. The properties I listed are for a single metal. In knives today we're dealing with compounds. So as he is saying, while we may get an HRC of 61 out of something like M390 and S110V, the fracture toughness (or strength at which the metal will fail) is going to be completely different. Unless we can find videos or technical data that say, OK Benchmade's M390 has a fracture toughness of X, we really are kind of left guessing.
