I just happened to notice that SOMETHING! is munching on my green buffing compound!
Those are - without a doubt! - tooth marks all around the edges of my compound.
WTF?

If I drop a small piece of Green or white compound on the floor My German Shepherd will be all over it and eat it(course I don't let her). I have wondered also what the attraction is to critters?

A it was explailed to me...way back.........Buffing compound is grease based...

Rats hungry for fat.....?

Maybe they have a chromium deficiency . That's fairly common in the USA for people over 60. It's needed for things like carbohydrate metabalism.

Some sort of wax or lard base and the actual grit suspended in the base. In this case a form of Chromium Oxide. Cr2O3.

Hard buffing compounds are tallow and abrasive. Green chrome compound has Chromium Oxide. Mice like to chew on anything A) hard, B) tasty,C) available.

In had a problem for a while with mice munching my jewelers rouge (rust in tallow base)

Buffing compounds are tallow, stearic acid and a couple of other animal based materials to hold the minerals together.

My dogs have really taken a liking to it over time.
