What is it about that Old Timer carbon steel?.

I think the Uncle Henry's with Schrade Walden NY USA, or NY USA, generally had the serial number. I have an 285UH that is just the USA stamp that is serialized. Impossible to date Schrades in every instance. I would estimate they quit sometime in the mid to late 70's.

Codger, yes low and behold there is some type of numbers written on the liner. It is so faint however, I can not make them out. At some point after the sun rises today I will try lightly cleaning the liners with mineral oil or semi-chrome to perhaps see them clear enough to read..

Codger,

Well alright, after a thorough soaking in a mineral oil bath for several hours, some light cleaning with the mineral oil, 2000 Grit wet/dry metal working sand paper with a popsicle stick combination, I have got some nice clean and clear liners to read from. It reads: 28854

.. Any additional information on what this number denotes would be very welcome!.

Thanks,
Anthony

Anthony, in many ways Schrade was a unique company, largely due to the astute management by the Baer brothers, Albert and Henry. One way in which they were unique was in their warranty for the Uncle Henry knives.

Thanks very kindly Codger_64!.

You, Irv, Thawk, El Lobo and a few others are really instructing me well in all ways vintage Schrade and I am grateful to you all for the solid teachings!.

All the best to you and I'll see you all over in the Collectors Forums.

I have a uncle Henry Stockman just like in the above add, with a serial number of 07069. If I remember correctly I bought it from Randall Knives in late 1970 just before I went back to Vietnam. I figured if Randall sold it, it must be a good pocket knife.
