When I first got into Emerson knives, the CQC-7 was to be the last on my 'buy' list. I thought that the handle to blade ratio was a bit strange, as in too much handle and too little blade. I also questioned the versatility of the American Tanto pattern. Was the tanto a practical pattern? Was the tanto any good for anything but piercing? Such questions kept me away from the sevens.
Now, as it happens, Rolf (Lycosa) is a big proponent of the CQC-7 and always has been for as far back as I can remenber. Rolf is quite the collector and has had some fine knives in hand, so when he recommended 'the seven' so many times, I eventually broke down and got one.
Usually when I get a new knife, it sees some pocket time for a bit to break it in and then one of my regulars (A-100, CQC-8) replaces it. This time however, the CQC-7B has remained in my pocket since I got it. The seven carries right, feels right in hand, is smooth as butter with a perfect lock-up and has served up fine cuts to whatever I lend it to. So I posit this question: What mystical quality(s) of the CQC-7 do you find irresitible?
