Yep, another TNT thread by BladeZealot!! :D .

Can't help it! As I've said, I own other knives, but a TNT just "trips my trigger"!!. This brings me to my reason for posting...

To all you TNT owners, what is it about Mayo's TNT that blows your dress up??

For me, I am just in awe of them.Superb edge retention, smooth, sleek lines, impervious to the elements...unbelievable utilitarian/tactical knife in a beautiful package. A true joy to behold. I saw this line somewhere else recently {whomever said this, I apologize}, and although it was referencing something else, it seems to fit here. "Where Performance meets Art".

EVERYONE here knows the TNT was the culmination of a looooong search for my "Holy Grail" of folders:D . I am aware some like other folders, this is fine with me. That's why they make 32 flavors.

But for those that get a chubby for their TNT :D , let's hear your reasons.

I just love how you can combine all the differnet blade and handle combinations, and have one that is just right for you. That and the fit and finish are better than any thing else I have handled.

I usually post as Scott Dog but now I am in Virginia visiting with my in laws and taking in the sites. Yesterday we went to Washington D.C. and to Gettysburg. I am using my stepdaughters computer and I don't remember my password for my other screen name so I started this one. For me, the TNT is my favorite because:
1} You can order one the way you want it.
2) Tom is a hellava nice guy.
3) The medium size is thin, lightweight and easy to carry.
4) The blade of stellite is maintenance free.
5) Tom makes them wickedly sharp.
6) The TNT holds up to everyday use and looks new.
7) The action is smooth and lockup is solid.

After getting my medium, my desire to aquire other folders has diminished considerably. Except of course for my next TNT which will be a medium AP tanto, left hand, openning hole, ambi option to be picked up at Blade Show West in September of 2002. I could go on and on but it's after 11pm here and I gotta catch a plane back to the west coast tomorrow. And yes, my TNT is in my left front pocket as I type this. My TNT will be neatly tucked away in my check in luggage for the flight home.:D

yes, they are bead blasted.

Tom uses a fine bead blast that is quite durable and I prefer it over some of the other bead blasts available due its "feel" and "appearance"

I have been trying to get my hands on a small for 2 yrs.
now,if anyone could help me procure one. thanx ;)

I'm back! The medium was my constant companion in D.C. and in Virginia. Did a lot of site seeing and visited some family. The medium made the trip and was with me most of the time. Some of the places that I went to in Washington I had to leave the knife in the car because I didn't want it to be confiscated but I kept it with me most of the time. Had no problems putting the knife in my checked luggage. It got there and back and is now safely in my pocket and in California where we both belong. It's good to be back home. I really like Southern California. And here is my small but growing family. I'm going to try to add to it one each year. :D

well for me its the perfect lock up, the precision attention to detail, the way it feels when i wrap my hand and fingers around it, the pure resistance to rust and corrosion (except for the screws unless they are also made of titanium), its extreme complexity in its "simple" design, the uniquness of the hole designs that tom puts on them, and they just flat out perform well

i also like the fact that they will work for utility and defensive purposes in a non threatening "look"....people rarley take a second look when i pull one out to use it as opposed to the stares i get when i pull out a black knife

feverdoc

Nice knives, I just don't like the look of the opening hole or the drilled holes in the handle.

Otherwise I am very happy with my Benza's;) :p

Wayne:
I thought that you liked the syderco openning hole. In the "who has a Sebenza" thread you said that the 'benza would be perfect if it had the openning hole. Tom also makes the knives with no holes and with thumbstuds. I think of the TNT as a Sebenza custom made with a Stellite blade. I think that if you got one you would really like it. Tom is swampted with orders and his website indicates that the wait for a TNT is about 18 months. The TNT is like the Sebenza in the sense that you really have to handle one to appreciate it. Tom is a fan of the Sebenza and will take them as a partial trade. Seems that it wasn't long ago that you couldn't understand what was the big deal about the Sebenza until Nemo sent you one of his.;) I have a nice little collection of Sebenzas and I think that they are great knives. I just like the TNT better because you can carry in your pocket a blade the size of a large Sebbie and not even know its there. The holes make it lighter, easier to clean and helps give some grip to the handle. The darn thing is absolutely maintenance free. You can use it and clean it later. Heck, you could store it in a bottle of saltwater. People complain that the Sebenza doesn't have a warncliff blade. Tom will make one for you. I take mine swimming in the pool or in the ocean with no worries and no special treatments. Mine sits in my left front pocket and I hardly know it's there. Oh well, enough rambling!:D

:D Nice post Scott!

To qualify my point... I like the SpyderHole opener, not the TNT type which I just don't like the look of. However, I am sure I could live with it...:p

I don't like the drilled holes in the handle, thats just me though.

I dislike Stellite or Talonite. Thats just me, oh and yes I have used a Talonite knife and seen a DDR Talonite real close up. Amazing blade, but for the Talonite. I am just an old fashioned CPM steel man myself:p !!!

Just between us... I have my eye on a plain handle recurved 4" blade TNT with a BG-42 steel blade or S30V for some point in the future...:) (just don't let my Benza's know!)

One day my friend, one day...

As I said, I understand everyone likes something different:cool: That's cool, more TNT's for me:D .

Seriously, I have stated before, I figure if you don't have a TNT, you will. same can be said about sebbies. I feel, for most knife knuts, it's the natural progression of things.

There's plenty of time, I can wait. :D

There's room here for us all.:)

Wow Russ, tough topic. I like my medium flatscale TNT (Thanks Russ) as an EDC. Good points are the smoooth action, edge retention, high "Gee-whiz" factor. Bad points, Tom can only crank out so many, Russ has more than me, I hate hawkbills and warncliffs.

I love my TNT but and carry it nearly every day. Out of the few customs I have, everyone who looks at my knives (I won't mention who made the others) picks the TNT as their favorite. Granted, most of these are not knife nuts . . . just interested parties.

I orderd a TNT from Tom at the beginng of this year, and it will be my first. I can't comment on the actual knife, only what has drawn me to buy it. I love the looks of the knife, and it is made of top notch, materials. Also you can have it made to your specifications, so it is truly a custom knife. I have only heard good things about the quality of the actual knife, so I can't wait to get mine. Now, stop reminding me of how long I will have to wait for it to come!!
