What is it?

I'm a micarta kind of guy with most of the knives I make, but I'll make an exception for Bois D'arc. Oxidizes to a beautiful golden wheat to burnt orange with a nice chatoyance.
 
I love hedge. It's a great tree for all the reasons above.
This knife has hedge handles from a 60 year old post.

In addition to it's usefulness, the roots make good cordage when they're still green.

Farnsrocket is right about it being harder than a lot of oak varieties. Most common oaks generally tend to run around 1300-1400 on the Janka hardness scale, whereas Osage Orange registers about 2040.
