What is Kershaw's "Flagship" folder?

Like one guy said, my first was a Scallion, its not the best steel but the shape and feel are top notch. Great little knife.

The Random Task was the first speed safe, that might be a good starting point, I think they have a new revision out now (Random Task II) with a modified tanto.

I think the Leek is great for model variations, Blur comes in second.

The "Flagship" now is the Tilt, if you are counting ZT the 0560 is a close second, both soon to be surpassed my the almighty 0777!

I would say Skyline. 'twas my first edc knife, and it's what got me into knives in general. Definitly a Gateway Knife.

To me the term "flagship" is not a synonym for "best seller" the flagship of the line should exemplify the high standard and the highest technology a company has to offer. The current flagship of Kershaw/ZT is the Tilt hands down(to me its the black one too not the SW).

Saying the Leek or Blur is the flagship because they are affordable and a good seller is like saying that the 3 Series is the flagship of BMW.

According to Mr wiki:
Core products or flagship products are a company's products which are most directly related to their core competencies. These products are then integrated into a variety of end products, either by the company holding the core product or by a second company to which the core product is sold to, and the end products are sold to users. In other words core product is the main product which manufacturing by the company for the customer.
Core products are central to the company's performance and make the most money that sustain the business. Core products are also usually the first products that the company created and sustained itself from its founding like the Windows Operating system for Microsoft, The Macintosh computer for Apple Inc., the Google Search platform for Google, etc. Therefore there is emphasis placed on the profitability of core products while working on other products hoping that they will become a competency for the company. The products that make the most profit are usually the core products. Other products that are not considered core products are called side projects, side products and experimental products.
I still vote Leek.

So by that logic windows 3.1 is the flagship of Microsoft ?

You did read the part that said Windows was their flagship product right? It didn't say it had to be their first version. That would be like saying the plain 1660 Leek and not including the other 99 varieties of Leeks.

I'm gonna go Skyline on this one. I know there are a lot of Leek fans out there, but I just don't see the appeal. Personally, I find it ugly, & uncomfortable in hand. I hate the blade shape soooo much. Sorry, just my opinion, please don't crucify me! IMHO, the Skyline is just a far superior knife, and cheaper too. I would guess that it is their best seller.

For me, the term "flagship" is obviously a nautical term, with these connotations. An Admiral of a task force designates a ship that he would be on for the cruise. This is how the "flag" is determined. It is the Admiral's flag. Usually, the Admiral will pick the most significant ships in which to carry a flag. It used to be a large Battleship, now its a Carrier, or the like. See where I am going? It is a symbol of prestige, and honor. It could mean most sales, but it often means the company's most prestigious product that displays the most features or functions. For BMW it would be there 7 series, for Benz, the "S" class, for GM probably Cadillac or Corvette. For Kershaw it would probably be some of the more pricey knives in the ZT line like the 0560/0561, or 03xx series.

Come on guys...it's got a flag...on the knife...

Perhaps "Flagship" is the wrong term to use.

Maybe "staple" or "building-block", I don't know. Just a basic affordable knife that you first think of when a friend who isn't into knives is considering buying a "good" knife and you think "Man, a Kershaw (fill-in-the-blank) would be perfect".

I will say that I've never owned a Leek or a Blur and this thread is making me re-think that. The Blur has just never done anything for me, but I've always been fascinated by the Leek (I almost bought one for myself when I bought my sons their first pocket knives - which were Scallions).

i would say leek, cause my older bro knows nothing about knives and he picked a leek out of a case fillled with all kinds of knives... plus i just love em.... however the blackout was the first kershaw i ever owned... loved it and stilll use it today!

For purely awe factor, the Offset. It blew my mind and got me started on this progressive, irreversible disease that is knife collecting.
