I have heard the term knife culture thrown around and I wonder what makes it diffrent from knife enthusiasum?

"Knife culture"....isnt that the green stuff you find on your spydy native when you leave it in the tackle box by mistake? lol sorry, not properly caffeinated yet...

^^ Lol, that's funny.

To me, knife culture is everything and anything having to do with knife collecting and using. It is a term to describe the sub culture of "knife people".

A few basic tenents of knife culture:

- If you cut yourself it will heal.

- If someone does something stupid and get hurt, it is not society's fault.

- I carry and use appropriate tools. That is what a civilized human does. Lower forms of animal life tear at their food and packages with their teeth.

- If I want to exercise a freedom I must extend to you the same right.

- I owe no one an explanation for any legal activity I choose to engage in.

- My knife is not a weapon. A ship in a bottle is not a weapon. A rock is not a weapon. A random piece of pipe is not a weapon. However, all will serve in a pinch.
(My .45 is, however, a weapon. That's why I procured it.)

- Restrictions on all of society are not the cure for an individual's own inadequacies.

- Fear of inaminate objects is a sign of mental illness.

- Pathetic people generally try to reduce others to their level rather than expending the effort to elevate themselves.

NICE post.

For me it is the quality of people. This is not based on internet observations (although the qualities are there on the net for those who take the time to look). It is based on 30+ years of face to face experiences and life time friends that have been made. I am a better person because of those friends.

It is a community of people who conduct themselves with honesty and respect. It is about people who's word is more important than words on a piece of paper and where a handshake is all that is needed to buy, sell or place an order.

It is makers who share their techniques with other makers. It is about makers who are never satisfied with their work and push themselves and others to improve and learn something new with each knife they make.

It is about enthusiasts who represent their passion for knives with a high level of ethics not usually found in other areas.

The knives are just gravy.
