What is most underrated FF knife?

I have to agree with you. The Toboggan is definitely one of the most under rated models of all. I would dearly love to have a guardless version, for my project and for me personally.

Totally agree with the Toboggan (and the F2)!

Hard to see the F2 as underrated by anyone other than maybe the guys at the shop. They sell every time they show up. I wish he would make one in 5/32 so everyone else might leave it alone until I could afford it :)

I also have to agree about the Tobaggan. It's a great little knife that rarely gets any attention.

I'm never sure why though I really like mine.

With all the Toboggan love, I am going to give one a try.

Thanks fellas:thumbup:

I love the Toboggan model. Mine is currently touring north Europe with a German friend who loves it as well. I need to pick up a wooden handled one with a less bright liner for the project when I can. Andy occasionally does "II" versions of knives, a Toboggan II with no guard, and just a hair more blade if possible, would be a utilitarian grail for me personally.

I have been on the look out for a toboggan and Mist has a nice write up on it...

Wood handle ( Koa or quartersawn oak) and Guardless would be great , and maybe even a swedge...but like Mist have been saving slowly, after trying out my first FbF a Bushcrafter jr. Will be ready I think sometime next year. I'll be patient.

Thanks, Whitty has the last available one that I know of. It even comes with a kydex sheath.

I love the Toboggan blade shape. Like the Russell Canadian belt knife with American upgrades. This design screams 3/32".

Love my guardless Toboggan, it has been my most carried small knife this year, has to be good to keep an HB out of my pocket!

Lol, you'd probably prefer a Bishop to have a 3/32 blade :p But in this case I guess I agree with you. It is well suited to snack and lunch prep :)

To me the Toboggan is one of the best candidates of all for guardlessness

Man I love this thread. Great choices here. The Leuku is very underrated IMO. I have a Toboggan that hangs on my pegboard (great patina) and I love it. BUT, I think the most underrated, negatively rated actually is the Drop Point Maverick. I don't think that knife gets nearly the attention that that handle deserves. I've never seen anything like it. The shape of it makes you tilt your head to the side like a dog. Then when you feel it in the hand you can't believe how comfortable it is. Also, the Wingman and Renegade are very underrated.

I'm carrying a sweet dud Handyman. Its not an underrated model unless you consider how great a design it is. Every time I unsheath it, I am so excited to cut with it.

Great thread.

Have to agree with you Andy on both the Leuku and Drop Point Maverick (or Maverick for that matter). I love the Wingman/Rebel handle and am waiting for my Osage Wingman to materialize....

As an admitted early skeptic of the handles on the Maverick / Renegade / Wingman series of designs, I would agree that they are the most misunderstood and underrated. They feel much better in hand than I expected from the photos. Your personal Drop Point Maverick is the nicest one I have had the chance to handle. That is an exceptional piece.

I think the Leuku will be my next FF knife. I'd really like to see a Monarch sized DPM. I'd be all over that design. I really want to try the new handle design but the size of the DPM would prevent it from seeing much use from me. I'm pretty well covered in the 4" blade category and, for me, knives of that size don't see as much rotation as the 3" edc knives do.

In one of our last big knife batches from Andy's shop we scored an awesome looking Leuku: https://fiddlebackoutpost.com/colle...roducts/fiddleback-forge-leuku-knife-rosewood

The big knives aren't cheap and sell slower, but I'm still surprised this one lasted as long as it has.

I've definitely had my eyes on that for a bit. Especially since I missed the Woodsman. I prefer black liners and pins but the more I look at that one the less I mind the natural. [emoji3]

I know which Woodsman you're referring to and you're right - that was an awesome looking knife. We're begged Andy to get us into the queue for a couple of more Woodsman...
